In search of real christians

‘Had the church not abdicated its moral responsibility of enacting the philosophy of Christ, the history of America would be very different & our place in the world would also be changed. If the church believed in & taught the factual doctrines of Christ it would be a very radical institution, a far cry from the bastion of conservatism that we see today.

It would actively organize against war. It would fill the streets with passionate people who demonstrate against the evils of war. It would take a strong stand against overt aggression, materialism, obscene wealth, imperialism, corporate crime, colonialism & the unequal distribution of wealth. It would minister its massive resources to end poverty. It would denounce presidents who espouse Christian values; but who act like the anti-Christ.

Rather than prop up false idols like George Bush & the so-called ‘Christian Right,’ it would denounce them as the blasphemers they are. It would demand truth & accountability. It would require both moral & physical effort from its members. It would require opposition to the power brokers in government. It would demand of them that they fight tyranny, as Dr. King did, & put themselves in harm’s way. It might even require that some of them be crucified or assassinated.

That is demanding a lot of them. But we all know what happened to Christ; & many of us witnessed the assassination of Dr. King. Thus it seems to me that being a Christian - a real Christian - would mean giving up one’s comfort & confronting injustice wherever you find it. It requires taking a moral stand & doing something about injustice.

Real Christians would not tolerate presidents who make war on defenceless people based upon lies & innuendo. Bush & his imperialist polices should be openly & powerfully denounced from every pulpit in every church in the United States, every day. But they are not. In fact, just the opposite occurs. Bush & his minions are cheered-on by the apostates: the dogs of war & poverty. Rather than acting as a counter friction to the machine, the church acts like a cheerleader for grotesque acts of atrocity against the world.

By allying itself with fraudulent ideologues like the ‘Christian Right,’ the church has itself become the anti-Christ. Being Christian, it seems to me, requires asking of oneself in times of crises: ‘What would Christ do?’ But this is a question that makes those who call themselves Christians uncomfortable.

It is the kind of question that demands everything of them.

It is the kind of question that makes it hard to look at oneself in the mirror.’

Christianity and the Demise of America

More porkies from the poms?

In the UK and australian press it has been suggested that the Iranian government was behind the bombing of Engkish troops in Iraq. But even the Iraqi PM denies this.

From Aljazeera news:

Iraqi PM denies Iranian interference
Thursday 06 October 2005, 16:52 Makka Time, 13:52 GMT
Iraq's Prime Minister Ibrahim accusations that Shia Muslim Iran is interfering in Iraq's internal affairs.
Asked about accusations that Iran was interfering in the internal al-Jaafari told Iranian on Thursday: "Such accusations are baseless and we do not agree with them at all."
"Relations between Iran and Iraq are currently very friendly and expanding. We are proud of the situation," he said.
"Some people want to harm our existing friendly relations with Iran but we will not let them do so.....

Back to history

History is weird.

I mean all history including today's happenings— as imposed on us by the blind cyclops we have in charge of our destiny — written in the future.

Take the various programs scheduled on the ABC, produced by the BBC on English history. These give great insight into the affairs of a Kingdom come. Here we have serious historians reporting seriously with unfortunate grinding boring pompous gravitas on the secrets of the courts and the machination of power way after the events — when in short everything was just affairs of tits and bums, war and loot, not so much to create a coherent society but a pyramidal structure where rulers would line their pockets at the expense of the guilably believing masses.

So Kingdom came. Great things came out of it but the ordinary folks saw nothing much of it, except a few pieces of great architecture that did not belong to them. This situation lasted until recently where technology has made the control of power continuum a bit harder to sustain for the psychopath who wants our support. But these smart cunning snake-oil merchants still peddle the same old con-tricks using more subtle voices....

Through a complex secret mix of corporations, political viscosities, information channels and the constant harping about a god in the backstage of our delirious brain vacuum, we are hemmed in to to trust the greatest con-artists on earth.

We’ve got not much choice either: we elect them.

And So Mr Carlton, of the airwaves and of the Saturday Sydney Morning Herald, is wrong this morning (08/10/05) to suggest that a four year term is okay for the Aussie government. Go and wash your mouth with soap, Mike... Yukes! No, four years is not. Presently at least we’ve got a chance at getting rid of some of these blabbermouths more often, even if we replace them by more inept people.

We need that choice more often than not. Major decision should never be taken by a government without a referendum. See the Swiss for that... Mind you Switzerland is the most conservative country on earth and owes most of its survival to the biggest secrecy on money matters, including laundromats.

Back in the 1600s, the Swiss already played a dubious role in the “construction

on supplicants & alms .....

The Editor,

So, Tony Blair says Iran is arming Iraqi insurgents (‘Britain blames Tehran for Iraq troop deaths’, Herald, October 7).

Now I wonder if he can tell us who’s been arming Iran?

Gerard Henderson, like a historical-sword-quoting contortionist dangling upside down on a flexi wire-rope, entertains us this morning in the SMH (18/10/05) to the great adventure of Good Ship Australia in contradiction to what David Williamson, the alienated playwright and word-rich mogul — with houses in Sydney and Noosa no less — tells us in “The Bulletin

perverting democracy .....

"Pastor Niemoller spoke for the thousands and thousands of men like me when he spoke (too modestly of himself) and said that, when the Nazis attacked the Communists, he was a little uneasy, but, after all, he was not a Communist, and so he did nothing: and then they attacked the Socialists, and he was a little uneasier, but, still, he was not a Socialist, and he did nothing; and then the schools, the press, the Jews, and so on, and he was always uneasier, but still he did nothing. And then they attacked the Church, and he was a Churchman, and he did something - but then it was too late."

on the road to damascus .....

‘Ninety-five bishops from President Bush's church said Thursday they repent their "complicity" in the "unjust and immoral" invasion and occupation of Iraq.

"In the face of the United States administration's rush toward military action based on misleading information, too many of us were silent," said a statement of conscience signed by more than half of the 164 retired and active United Methodist bishops worldwide.

The TRUTH

Gus, what an eloquent piece and I couldn't agree more than with you (or your mum)!

As one visiting physicist recently said "whether it be spirituality or not, the reaon we are here is it's all just theatre". However, as you hinted at there are some who are prepared to slaughter their fellow players on the stage in a frantic display to stay in the ever-moving spotlight.

Keep those soliloquy's coming!
