sharing our values .....

‘Tonight the SBS Dateline program plans to broadcast about
60 previously unpublished photographs that the US Government has been fighting
to keep secret in a court case with the American Civil Liberties Union.

Although a US judge last year
granted the union access to the photographs following a freedom-of-information
request, the US Administration has appealed against the decision on the grounds
their release would fuel anti-American sentiment.

Some of the photos are similar to
those published in 2004, others are different. They include photographs of six
corpses, although the circumstances of their deaths are not clear. There are
also pictures of what appear to be burns and wounds from shotgun pellets.

The executive producer of Dateline,
Mike Carey, said he was showing the pictures leaked to his program because it
was important people understood what had happened at Abu Ghraib.’

The Photos
America Doesn't Want Seen

cnn politely excuses the inexcusable .....

"Let's start by reminding
everybody that under U.S. military law and practice, the only photographs that
can be taken are official photographs for documentation purposes about the
status of prisoners when they are in military detention. That's it. Anything
else is not acceptable. And of course, that is what the Abu Ghraib Prison
scandal is all about."

As we look at a couple of the
photographs, let's remind people why these are so inappropriate. Under U.S.
military law and practice and procedure, you simply cannot take photographs -
as we're going to show you some of them right now. You cannot take photographs
of people in detention, in humiliating positions, positions that are abusive in
any way, shape or form. The only pictures that are ever allowed of people in
U.S. military detention would be pictures for documentation purposes. And,
clearly, these pictures are not that."

Missing The Scandal At Abu Ghraib

meanwhile, a quieter voice …..

“The images make me wonder why
the bowels of the earth don't just open and swallow the President every time he
makes reference to us "bringing democracy" anywhere. They make
violent resistance in Iraq seem like the only justified response.”

The New Photographs From Abu
Ghraib

even more horror from abu ghraib .....

Nearly two years after the first
pictures of naked and humiliated Iraqi detainees emerged from Abu Ghraib
prison, the full extent of the abuse became known for the first time yesterday
with a leaked report from the US army's internal investigation into the
scandal.

reveals the full extent of abuse

· 93 video files of suspected
detainee abuse

Iraqi detainees
