Jeb Bush Embraces George W. Bush’s Foreign Policy

By DANIEL LARISON • April 17, 2015, 12:38 AM

Jeb Bush’s foreign policy is just as bad as one would expect:

If Jeb Bush is elected president, the United States won’t be on speaking terms with Cuba and will partner more closely with Israel. He’ll tighten sanctions on Iran and urge NATO to deploy more troops in Eastern Europe to counter Vladimir Putin. And he’ll order the U.S. military to root out “barbarians” and “evildoers” around the globe.

That certainly doesn’t come as a shock, but it should put to rest any lingering doubts about the kind of foreign policy George W. Bush’s brother supports. Despite the presence of one or two realists among his foreign policy advisers, Bush wasnever going to campaign as a realist, which just makes the hawkish panic over James Baker’s connection to his campaign that much more laughable.

The article goes on to say that Jeb Bush isn’t repudiating his brother’s views. On the contrary, he is “embracing them — and emphasizing them.” Of course he is. There was never any reason to expect him to do anything else. Granted, it is politically foolish for any Republican candidate to endorse Bush-era foreign policy, but that doesn’t stop almost all of them from doing it. Being identified with George W. Bush remains a political liability whether any of these candidates wants to admit it. Being identified with one of the most costly and disastrous parts of the last administration’s record is even worse.

bush truncheons...

Far from running from or playing down the views once expressed by his brother George W. Bush, Jeb Bush is embracing them — and emphasizing them.

It is clear when he calls for closer engagement with Arab leaders to combat the growing threat of the Islamic State. Or when he criticizes President Obama for pulling U.S. troops out of Iraq. It is most apparent when he refers to “evildoers” — a formulation used widely by his brother — and argues that the United States needs to engage but doesn’t have to be “the world’s policeman,” a view voiced by his brother that was also embraced by their father, George H.W. Bush.

jeb? there were no intelligence failures...

Jeb Bush on Thursday sought to untie himself from a week of rhetorical contortions over a deeply unpopular war his brother began, saying at a campaign-style stop here that he would not have authorized the 2003 invasion of Iraq had he known about the intelligence failures at the time.

Gus: okay, lets recap: THERE WAS NO INTELLIGENCE FAILURES at the time of the invasion of Iraq. Intelligence was created, invented, deliberately manipulated to deliver war for George Bush. These were not failures. They were deliberately stonewalled to create a perception. Jeb Bush is disgenuinely trying to shirt the real question that NO ONE wants to talk about. Who "created" the fake intelligence for George Bush? Did George ordered to have an "intelligence" bypass to invade Iraq, no matter what? Bush, Blair and our own title turdy at the time Howard HAD TO KNOW that the intelligence gathering on Iraq was totally faulty, DELIBERATELY faulty. Entirely fabricated.

jeb bush convolution about his intellectual ignorance...

Jeb Bush said on Wednesday that the Earth’s climate is changing but that scientific research does not clearly show how much of the change is due to humans and how much is from natural causes.

Bush delved into climate politics during a campaign-style house party in New Hampshire at which he took questions from voters on his viewpoints as he considers whether to seek the Republican presidential nomination in 2016.

Although the US president, Barack Obama, and many scientists believe humans are largely to blame for climate change, Bush said the degree of human responsibility is uncertain.

“Look, first of all, the climate is changing,” he said. “I don’t think the science is clear what percentage is man-made and what percentage is natural. It’s convoluted. And for the people to say the science is decided on, this is just really arrogant, to be honest with you.

“It’s this intellectual arrogance that now you can’t even have a conversation about it. The climate is changing, and we need to adapt to that reality.”

The former Florida governor challenged Obama’s determination earlier in the day that climate change was a threat to US national security.

“As a small part of US foreign policy,” Bush said, the US should encourage states that have had an increase in carbon emissions to take on the challenge.

But the overall country has had a reduction in carbon emissions due to new technologies, conservation measures, higher gas mileage in vehicles and a shift toward natural gas, he said.

To put it as simply as possible, we know that CO2 is warming the climate. We know that human activities since the industrial revolution have added more than one third of the CO2 in the atmosphere. This EXTRA CO2 is driving global warming. What is convoluted about this? Jeb Bush is an idiot — probably more rabid than his illustrious brother.
