Roger Ailes, the former Fox News chairman ousted last month over charges of sexual harassment, is advising Donald J. Trump as he begins to prepare for the all-important presidential debates this fall.

Mr. Ailes is aiding Mr. Trump’s team as it turns its attention to the first debate with Hillary Clinton, the Democratic nominee, on Sept. 26 at Hofstra University on Long Island, according to four people briefed on the move, who insisted on anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the matter.

Two of them said that Mr. Ailes’s role could extend beyond the debates, which Mr. Trump’s advisers see as crucial to vaulting him back into strong contention for the presidency after a series of self-inflicted wounds that have eroded his standing in public opinion polls.

For Mr. Ailes, being connected with Mr. Trump’s campaign could be a form of redemption after he was pushed out of the powerful network that he helped build. And for Mr. Trump, having Mr. Ailes taking a hand in his preparations for the debates adds immeasurably to the messaging and media expertise in his corner — and could raise alarms within Mrs. Clinton’s camp about just how aggressive Mr. Trump plans to be in those encounters.

It was not clear when Mr. Ailes began helping the campaign. He resigned his post at Fox News on July 21 amid an investigation into allegations of sexual harassment by former female employees that occurred after a lawsuit by the former anchor Gretchen Carlson.

WASHINGTON — Donald J. Trump, reiterating his call to restrict Muslim

immigration to the United States, has adopted a tactic that has long been a

mainstay of strongmen and sectarian provocateurs: portraying outsiders as a

threat to women’s safety.

In a foreign policy speech on Monday, Mr. Trump referred to the practice

known as honor killings in Pakistan and the mass sexual assault on New Year’s

Eve in the German city of Cologne, implying that Muslim immigrants pose a threat

to women in the United States.

He also cited the case of an Iraqi immigrant who murdered his daughter in

2009 in Arizona out of anger that she was “too Westernized.” “Shockingly,” Mr.

Trump said, “this is a practice that has reached our own shores.”

Mr. Trump, knowingly or not, joined a long line of people who have justified

harsh policies against a group by portraying its members, often in sexualized

terms, as perilous to women.

honey blondes...

The American Bar Association established an ethics rule last week prohibiting attorneys from using sexist, racist and condescending terms. And it’s about time.

Full disclosure: I call people “Honey.” A lot.

But I need to watch what I say, if I’m going to praise the American Bar Association (ABA) for finally establishing an ethics rule that forbids that kind of talk.

The new rule prohibits attorneys from using overly familiar and condescending terms like “Honey,” “Sweetheart”; covertly sexist urgings of “calm down,” and any comments or actions that “single out someone on the basis of race, religion, sex, disability and other factors.”

Critics complained that the rule would inhibit lawyers from speaking freely, whether it’s on behalf of their clients or otherwise.

But none of them spoke out against the rule before it was approved at the ABA’s annual meeting last week in San Francisco.

I appreciate these people having the good sense to keep their mouths shut.

But I, too, am a little speechless.

Two dozen state bars and the District of Columbia bar have passed similar rules against sexist behavior. But until last week, the ABA had no national rule on it.

It’s even more stunning that lawyers — presumably well-educated, intelligent and reasonable people — had to be ordered to treat their colleagues and clients without racism, sexism or anything short of professionalism.

Oh, please, attorney Anne Bremner said when I called to get her take.

“I had a judge ask me to baby-sit the defendant’s kids in the hallway,” she told me. “And I was the prosecutor.”

Did she do it?

“Sure,” she said. “I was really young and he was the judge and the kids were acting up. Even though I am the last person anyone should leave their kids with.”

Names, she’s heard plenty. “Blondie,” “Sweetheart,” “Legally Blonde.” Judges have greeted Bremner and her fellow (male) attorneys with: “Mr. Smith. Mr. Jones. Anne.”

he does not want the job...

If it appears that Donald Trump isn't even trying to win the US presidential election, it's because at this point, he is trying desperately to lose it, according to documentary-maker Michael Moore.

Trump's controversial – and confounding – presidential campaign grew out of a desire to raise his bargaining power within the entertainment world for his shows The Apprentice and The Celebrity Apprentice, Moore has written.

"Simply put, he wanted more money," Moore writes. Trump then "floated the idea" of running for president "in the hopes that the attention from that would make his negotiating position stronger" while talking to other networks about moving his show from NBC.

After Trump launched his campaign with a swipe at immigrants, NBCUniversal cut its business relationship with the mogul. As Moore tells it: "Trump was stunned. So much for the art of the deal. He never expected this, but he stuck to his plan anyway to increase his 'value' in the eyes of the other networks by showing them how many millions of Americans wanted him to be their leader."

It certainly didn't hurt Trump that in the primaries he ran against a field of weak Republican candidates who represented a divided party out of step with the reality of the modern US economy.

The Federal Election Commission has released a statement saying that they will be cracking down on “unlawfully false or fictitious” candidates like “Deez Nuts,” who have been consistently polling better than some actual third-party candidates.

The FEC announced on Thursday that they will now be sending verification letters to those who attempt to register fake candidates, and fraudsters could face fines.

The Commission has authorized staff to send verification letters to filers listing fictional characters, obscene language, sexual references, celebrities (where this is no indication that the named celebrity submitted the filing), animals, or similarly implausible entities as the name or contact information of the candidate or committee,” the statement read.

They have also created a new procedure and hired staff to “verify information in filings from the 2016 election cycle that appear to be unlawfully false or fictitious.”

“The new procedure comes in response to an increase this election cycle in the filing registration and statement of candidacy forms (FEC Forms 1 and 2) that provide patently false candidate or treasurer names, questionable contact or bank information, or material that does not relate to campaign finance, such as drawings, essays and personal court records,” according to the statement.

of a lovely nude bod, of hidden emails and of bad journalism...

Lawyers for Melania Trump are pursuing legal action against the Daily Mail for reporting “100% false” rumors that she worked as an escort in the 1990s as well as raising questions about her immigration status at the time.

While Donald Trump has a reputation for threatening and pursuing litigation, it is unusual for a major party nominee or their spouse to mount legal action against a publication only months before an election.

The Republican nominee’s wife had previously denied a story in Politico in which questions about her immigration status were first reported but had not previously addressed the other accusations.

The suit comes in the wake of Trump launching an offensive against many media outlets, banning some such as Politico and the Washington Post from covering his rallies as well as calling for stricter libel laws in the US. He also banned the Guardian from attending an event in Scotland after Trump took offence when reporter Ewen MacAskill questioned the Republican nominee about his allegedly “toxic” politics.

In a statement to the Guardian, Charles Harder, an attorney at the firm of Harder, Miller and Abrams which is representing Trump, said: “This law firm is litigation counsel for Melania Trump. Mrs Trump has placed several news organizations on notice of her legal claims against them, including Daily Mail among others, for making false and defamatory statements about her supposedly having been an ‘escort’ in the 1990s. All such statements are 100% false, highly damaging to her reputation, and personally hurtful. She understands that news media have certain leeway in a presidential campaign, but outright lying about her in this way exceeds all bounds of appropriate news reporting and human decency.”

Meanwhile La Femme Clinton's newly discovered HIDDEN state secret email on her private server will be released FROM THREE WEEKS BEFORE THE ELECTION

Former Secretary of State Colin Powell has denied reports that he advised Hillary Clinton to use her personal email and alleged that her people were trying to pin him down on the issue. According to The New York Times, Democratic presidential nominee Clinton told the FBI that she was being advised by Powell, who served as the Secretary of State during the Bush Administration, to use her personal email.

Clinton is facing charges of using her personal emails hosted on a private server during her tenure as a Secretary of States, which her opponents allege some time includes classified information.

Clinton has denied those allegations but says it was a mistake on her part to use a personal email. The issue was investigated by the FBI, which decided against filing a charge sheet against her. The New York Post reported last week that Clinton told FBI that she was advised by Powell at beginning of her tenure to use personal email. Powell has denied this. “The truth is, she was using (the private email server) for a year before I sent her a memo telling her what I did,” Powell said according to multiple media reports. Her people have been trying to pin it on me,” Powell, told at an event in New York.

Asked why he thought Clinton had named him in her defense of the email controversy, he replied, “Why do you think?” “It doesn’t bother me. But it’s okay; I’m free,” Powell said.
