the lying government...

triggs

The president of the Human Rights Commission, Gillian Triggs, has hit back after an extraordinary attack by Malcolm Turnbull, accusing the Prime Minister of not being briefed and misunderstanding how the organisation operates.

Mr Turnbull on Monday called on the commission to urgently review the way it manages race hate cases after "bringing" a case against three students that was last week thrown out by a Federal Circuit Court judge for having no reasonable prospect of success.

meanwhile. george bookshelves keeps on bullshitting...

Attorney-General George Brandis misled Parliament over his dealings with the government's chief legal adviser, a Senate committee has concluded in a damning report that reopens the toxic rift between the two men.

In a report released late on Tuesday, the Senate standing committee on legal and constitutional affairs concluded Senator Brandis did not consult former solicitor-general Justin Gleeson, SC, about a controversial change to the way he would be briefed.

poor old white men with a gun...

The Australian Human Rights Commission president, Gillian Triggs, has criticised reporting of the commission’s work by the Australian newspaper, including the claim it is “failing older white men”.

Triggs said the headline was a “journalistic flourish that has no substance in law or in our practices” and criticised “misinformation” by some media outlets about reporting of section 18C Racial Discrimination Act complaints.

On Monday, Triggs appeared before the Senate legal and constitutional affairs committee to clarify her earlier evidence that incorrectly claimed her comments in an interview with the Saturday Paper were taken out of context.

more bullshit from bookshelves brandis...

Attorney-General George Brandis was personally involved in the Bell Group matter one month earlier than he claims he was, the ABC has been told.

Key points:
  • George Brandis may have been involved in Bell Group matter earlier than previously claimed
  • Senator Brandis told Senate he first became involved in Bell case on March 3, 2016
  • 7.30 has been told Senator Brandis spoke to WA Attorney-General about Bell on February 1, 2016

If the claim is true, Senator Brandis may have misled Parliament over the issue.

7.30 has been told Senator Brandis spoke to West Australian Attorney-General Michael Mischin about the case in early February last year — a full month before Senator Brandis said he first became personally involved.

Senator Brandis said he could not recall the conversation.

"I have no recollection or record of any telephone conversation with Mr Mischin on or about 1 February 2016," Senator Brandis told 7.30 in a statement.

But 7.30 has been told Senator Brandis informed Mr Mischin he'd had a briefing on the Bell matter ahead of a hearing in the High Court set down for the following week.
