Julie Bishop has called on Moscow to halt its support of Syrian President Bashar Assad in order to jointly achieve settlement of the Syrian crisis.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Australian Foreign Minister Julie Bishop has called on Moscow to halt its support of Syrian President Bashar Assad in order to jointly achieve settlement of the Syrian crisis with the Western countries.

“It is time for Russia to withdraw its support for Assad so we can work a political solution to bring some kind of peace to this troubled land,” Bishop told the ABC broadcaster.

The Australian government hopes that the United States will convince Russia to stop supporting Assad, Bishop underlined.

According to Bishop, the United States attack was a “proportionate response,” to allegations that Assad used chemical weapons in the Syrian city of Idlib.

On Sunday, US Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley said that US President Donald Trump is discussing with members of his administration the possibility of introducing sanctions against Russia and Iran for supporting the Syrian government.

al qaeda -- now the trusted source of western news...

From Chris Floyd:

In this piece from Huffington Post, we find the views of an actual expert on WMD, someone who doesn't actually profit from war and weapons like the "experts" paraded across the media in the last week. It is interesting to note that 1) the initial eye-witness accounts of the victims of the attack do not correspond to the use of weaponized sarin gas, cited as the reason for directly attacking Syrian positions; and 2) the entire narrative has been driven by al Qaeda, whom the Western news media is now treating as the most credible source of information in Syria, while lauding them as valiant rebels -- even as they persecute the people under their control and continue to plot and push attacks against the West. There is also the fact that the main beneficiary of the attack has been ISIS, which immediately launched an offensive while Syrian forces were shut down or pulled back in the wake of the American assault.

Again, with no brief for Assad, whose regime (recently a US partner in torturing "War on Terror" captives) is capable of any evil, we are in a curious place: bombing people on the word of al Qaeda, to the benefit of ISIS. Why, you'd almost think that quelling terrorism was not, perhaps, the principal aim of the "War on Terror," but that it has more to do with old-fashioned hardball power games among amoral nation-states (and their various proxies), jockeying for domination and servicing their militarist elites.

But I suppose we mustn’t indulge in such cynical thoughts. Let’s get with the program instead: Trump done good! Al Qaeda speaks truth! Turn ISIS loose! It’s the best of all possible worlds! As always, Shakespeare put it so well: “Love be not love if left unparaded upon a social platform.” (Or was that Zuckerberg? I’m always getting those guys mixed up.)

Some excerpts from Scott Ritter's article:

"Al Nusra has a long history of manufacturing and employing crude chemical weapons; the 2013 chemical attack on Ghouta made use of low-grade Sarin nerve agent locally synthesized, while attacks in and around Aleppo in 2016 made use of a chlorine/white phosphorous blend.  If the Russians are correct, and the building bombed in Khan Sheikhoun on the morning of April 4, 2017 was producing and/or storing chemical weapons, the probability that viable agent and other toxic contaminants were dispersed into the surrounding neighborhood, and further disseminated by the prevailing wind, is high.

The counter-narrative offered by the Russians and Syrians, however, has been minimized, mocked and ignored by both the American media and the Trump administration. So, too, has the very illogic of the premise being put forward to answer the question of why President Assad would risk everything by using chemical weapons against a target of zero military value, at a time when the strategic balance of power had shifted strongly in his favor. Likewise, why would Russia, which had invested considerable political capital in the disarmament of Syria’s chemical weapons capability after 2013, stand by idly while the Syrian air force carried out such an attack, especially when their was such a heavy Russian military presence at the base in question at the time of the attack? ..."

SONNET 116

Let me not to the marriage of true minds
Admit impediments. Love is not love
Which alters when it alteration finds,
Or bends with the remover to remove:
O no; it is an ever-fixed mark,
That looks on tempests, and is never shaken;
It is the star to every wandering bark,
Whose worth's unknown, although his height be taken.
Love's not Time's fool, though rosy lips and cheeks
Within his bending sickle's compass come;
Love alters not with his brief hours and weeks,
But bears it out even to the edge of doom.
If this be error and upon me proved,
I never writ, nor no man ever loved.

can't she shut up for once?...

North Korea has warned Australia of a possible nuclear strike if it continues to "blindly and zealously toe the US line." It comes after Australian Foreign Minister Julie Bishop said Pyongyang poses a "serious threat" to peace and stability in the region.

"If Australia persists in following the US moves to isolate and stifle the DPRK and remains a shock brigade of the US master, this will be a suicidal act of coming within the range of the nuclear strike of the strategic force of the DPRK," a spokesman for the North Korean Foreign Ministry said, as quoted by the official KCNA news agency.

The threat comes after Bishop said earlier this week that North Korea is on a "path to achieving nuclear weapons capability," posing an "unacceptable" risk to the region. She added that its efforts must be stopped by the international community.

Those comments were not taken well by North Korea, with the spokesman referring to them as a "string of rubbish.”

What she uttered can never be pardoned as it is an act against peace that patronizes and shields the US extreme hostile policy toward the DPRK and nuclear threats and blackmail against it, the root cause of the grave situation prevailing on the Korean Peninsula, and encourages the US to opt for reckless and risky military actions," the spokesman said.

He went on to accuse Australia of "blindly and zealously toeing the US line."

The spokesman concluded with a stern warning to Bishop: “The Australian foreign minister had better think twice about the consequences entailed by her reckless tongue-lashing before flattering the US," he said.

Meanwhile, Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull pledged support for the US policy on North Korea on Saturday, and urged China once again to exert economic pressure on Pyongyang.

North Korea's comments also coincided with US Vice President Mike Pence's visit to Australia, during which he met with Turnbull and issued another condemnation of Pyongyang's weapons program.

Pence thanked Australia for calling on China to exert greater pressure on North Korea on Saturday, while repeating that "all options are on the table" when it comes to dealing with Pyongyang. He stressed, however, that the US is focused on diplomacy at this stage.

In this diplomacy of the biggest dick, it would be wise for our "foreign Minister" to say nothing otherwise she appears to fuck herself -- and us by default...
