a "do over" about "one nation" doing deals in the USA with the NRA and the koch bros is in the public interest...

koch bros

One Nation MP Mark Latham, who was elected to NSW's Upper House at the weekend, has attacked an investigation into the party's stance on gun laws as a "do over".

Key points:
  • As part of an Al Jazeera investigation, One Nation figures were filmed discussing the softening of Australia's gun laws
  • One Nation MP Mark Latham said the party had been targeted in a "dishonest" way
  • The ABC said the reaction to the story proved it was in the public interest

Speaking on radio station 2GB, Mr Latham described Al Jazeera's three-year investigation into One Nation as "media entrapment", and claimed the ABC was trying to "do over" his party by running it.

An Al Jazeera documentary crew filmed One Nation leader Pauline Hanson's Chief of Staff James Ashby and the party's Queensland director Steve Dickson discussing the softening of Australia's gun laws during a trip to the US last year.

On the trip, Mr Ashby and Mr Dickson were filmed meeting officials from the National Rifle Association (NRA), and other gun lobby groups.

The pair spoke openly about wanting political donations.

"It's certainly a sting, it's an example of media entrapment," Mr Latham said.

"I think it's quite remarkable that a news agency headed by a guy who came from the ABC, now working for this Arabic news outfit, would spend three years paying someone to deliberately deceive, lie, spy, connive and set-up these Queensland One Nation officials.

they don't sell guns... and they don't give money...

Secret footage recorded during an Al Jazeera investigation has revealed senior One Nation figures met with representatives of one of America's richest companies last year to discuss possible political funding.

That company was Koch Industries, a multi-billion-dollar empire run by Charles Koch (and until last year, his brother David).

Together, the Koch brothers (pronounced 'coke') are two of the most powerful people in the United States.

Here's what we know about them.

The Koch Brothers got beaten by the Waltons to acquire Walmart... and they don't sell guns, but they sell a lot of other stuffs that ARE choking the planet: PLASTICS, petroleum products, gasoline, diesel fuels, jet fuels and other oil products, as well as those related to polymers (PLASTICS) and other chemicals, including spandex, resins, chemicals, and polymers (PLASTICS).

The Koch Bros do not give money away. Proof? They did not give ONE CENT to Trump's campaign, while nearly spending $1 billion on the other republican candidates...

the one nation great gun furphy

In Australia, not all guns are "illegal". Only the semi-automatic weapons, the automatic weapons and the assault rifles are should they be able to shoot more than 5 bullets without reloading.

Thank you Al Jazeera. Thank you ABC.  This shows we need the ABC more than ever.

A speech given by the head of the BBC pouting over the "abusive" term "mainstream media" misses the point entirely, media analyst Lionel told RT. Instead, he suggested, news outlets should ask why people no longer trust them.
"The problem today, the metric for great journalism is not truth and verity and veracity and accuracy, it's 'how many likes did you get? How many retweets? Are you viral?'" Lionel pointed out, explaining that the don't-call-it-mainstream news media had brought this on themselves by jettisoning their standards.

Here we go into the murky world of news gathering. We know how the Iraq War was sold with fake stories through the media.
For example the information we got about One nation, an Australian ultra-right wing political party, with a video of some of its head-apparaticks in the USA to get the Australian gun laws repealed is an eye-opener. Ashby, that little monster that already destroyed a couple of governments by lying and spying, now says that “they were on the sauce (drunk)”. No they don’t appear drunk in the video but appear excited about the prospect of getting moneys and of changing the gun laws, sometimes from rabid aggressive women, you would not want to cross on their PMT days…
Meanwhile, Latham claims entrapment, when the little twerp, Ashby did the same fucking thing to Peter Slipper (possible under instructions from the Liberal party then, as he “worked” (spied for) the Liberals (CONservatives).

Now “our” ABC is under the gun. Since Abbott pronounced without laughing that the budget of the ABC and SBS would not be cut, The ABC budget — under his government and subsequent versions of it under Malcolm and now Scummo — has been slashed by more than 650 million dollars, while the ABC has had to perform far more stuff on the spectrum of transmission of information. The new digital kid on the block — infodigitalnuz — has also taken away valuable funding and resources of the ABC — and other media such as Uncle Rupe's — with a new lightweight approach to dissemination of news. Hyperactive kids, ADDH adults, dogs on leashes — all want to see a 2.5 seconds or less item, headlined and digested, before they move on to the next cat video of a fluff-ball banging at the typewriter writing a novel. Goldfishes hold the record now for longest attention span. Frightening. And when we see the like of Ashby going full hog on guns, we have to be worried. We NEED OUR ABC MORE THAN EVER. STOP THE GOVERNMENT TRYING TO DEFRAUD IT AND RESTORE THE FULL FUNDING IT DESERVES.

hanson to take action... in the future...

Pauline Hanson has declared she will take “all appropriate action” after her One Nation associates James Ashby and Steve Dickson were caught on videoseeking a $20m donation from the National Rifle Association – but the appropriate action will have to wait until later in the week.

The One Nation leader, who is reportedly unwell and has not appeared in public since the scandal broke, did not rebuke her errant colleagues explicitly when she issued a statement via social media on Wednesday.

She instead attempted the same defensive strategy as Ashby and Dickson. Appealing to One Nation’s base in an obvious effort in damage control, Hanson accused al-Jazeera, the state-funded broadcaster of Qatar, of producing a “hit piece” on One Nation.

It was a hit piece. But the Hansonites should burn themselves to the stakes: A BUNCH OF CROOKS.

another appalling pauline moment...

Pauline Hanson has implied that the 1996 Port Arthur massacre was a government conspiracy, in comments recorded secretly by al-Jazeera.

The second part of al-Jazeera’s undercover operation also reveals senior One Nation figures discussing how Australia’s strict gun laws would need to be watered down over time, and being advised by the US gun lobby to exploit stories about so-called “African gangs” to make the case for gun ownership.

A One Nation state leader is also shown discussing donations with representatives of multinational energy giant Koch Industries, and telling them that with more funding, the party could “change the voting system” in Australia.

Hidden camera footage, released as part of a documentary that also revealed One Nation had sought a US$20m (A$28m) donation from the US gun lobby, showed Hanson saying she had “a lot of questions” about Port Arthur.

“An MP said it would actually take a massacre in Tasmania to change the gun laws in Australia,” Hanson told the al-Jazeera reporter Rodger Muller.

“Haven’t you heard that? Have a look at it. It was said on the floor of parliament. I’ve read a lot and I have read the book on it, Port Arthur. A lot of questions there.”

Guns, Climate Denial and Conspiracies: Al Jazeera Captures Australian Far Right Political Figures Meeting Koch Industries

By Graham Readfearn • Wednesday, March 27, 2019 - 21:27

Sitting in the offices of Koch Industries in Washington D.C., far-right Australian politician Steve Dickson shows his hand in a request for their cash.

“This lefty attitude that just thinks solar and wind are going to change the world for the better … it’s sending us all broke,” Dickson, the Queensland leader of the political party One Nation, told Koch Industries director of federal affairs Catherine Haggett.

The exchange with the petrochemical giants, from September 2018, is part of a blockbuster hidden-camera investigative series released by Al Jazeera.

Socialism Fears

Dickson and senior One Nation figure James Ashby traveled to the United States, to try and solicit millions of dollars in donations, and promise this could help the party gain a balance of power and then weaken Australia’s gun laws.

The two-part Al Jazeera investigation took years to compile. The broadcaster used an actor and journalist to set up a public-facing, but fake, Australian gun rights lobby group. Then journalist Rodger Muller of the fictitious “Gun Rights Australia” facilitated a One Nation trip to the U.S., accompanying Dickson and Ashby to multiple meetings, conferences, and lavish dinners events.

The conduct of the One Nation representatives was revealed just a week after 50 people were gunned down in two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand. An Australian far-right extremist is accused of carrying out the massacre.

There is no evidence that One Nation was able to secure any money from its U.S. trip.  Just months later the Australian Senate, where One Nation leader Pauline Hanson has a seat, voted to ban foreign political donations. Ashby is Hanson’s chief of staff.

Koch Industries billionaire owners Charles and David Koch have pumped their influence, and their millions, into a wide network of libertarian and conservative lobby groups and think tanks that push climate science denial, promote fossil fuel use, and block climate-friendly policies.

In the meeting, Ashby complains that Australia is “turning socialist” before Haggett adds: “We are too, and when you look at the data of young people and how they perceive socialism, it’s terrifying.”

She adds: “We are not naive to the importance of politics in Australia and how they relate to the U.S.”

One Nation's Denial

The Al Jazeera series has already had major political ramifications for One Nation, with Australia’s Prime Minister Scott Morrison saying his conservative Liberal Party will ask voters to place One Nation candidates below key rivals Labor on voting papers in the upcoming national election, expected in May.

One Nation’s far-right policy platforms include banning Muslim immigration and exiting the global Paris climate change agreement. The party considers human-caused climate change to be unproven.

Conspiracy Theories

The Al Jazeera documentary also caught Hanson discussing Australia’s Port Arthur massacre — a 1996 mass shooting in Port Arthur, Tasmania, where 35 people were murdered with an assault rifle.

The massacre was the catalyst for Australia’s National Firearms Agreement that included a ban on semi-automatic and automatic weapons.

But Hanson is heard suggesting the shooting could have been a political or government conspiracy, pointing at the “accuracy” of the shots.

Hanson told Muller that before the shooting, “An MP said it would actually take a massacre in Tasmania to change the gun laws in Australia.”

“Haven’t you heard that? Have a look at it. It was said on the floor of parliament. I’ve read a lot and I have read the book on it, Port Arthur. A lot of questions there … those shots, they were precision shots.” Ashby adds: “It's that whole September 11 thing too,” without elaborating.

When Donald Trump won the 2016 U.S. Presidential election, Hanson joined former One Nation senator and climate science denier Malcolm Roberts to drink champagne in front of Parliament House in the Australian capital.

“We will free the world of this rubbish they call climate change,” said a jubilant Malcolm Roberts. Roberts would later leave the Senate after it was discovered his British citizenship should have disqualified him from standing.

With them drinking champagne was American climate science denier and blogger Tony Heller, who had been in Australia with Roberts.

Heller has also suggested a conspiracy behind the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre in Connecticut, where 20 children and six adults were killed.

One Nation in D.C.

In December 2016, Roberts traveled to Washington, D.C., to meet with a who’s who of climate science denial, including Heller.

Several of the people Roberts met, work at Koch- and fossil fuel-funded think tanks, including Patrick Michaels of the Cato Institute, and Myron Ebell of the Competitive Enterprise Institute.

In the first episode of the Al Jazeera investigation, National Rifle Association bosses coach the One Nation representatives on how to react to mass shootings. One NRA public relations figure advises the response should be: “How dare you stand on the graves of these children to put forward your political agenda?”

At a press conference, Hanson attacked the “Islamist” outlet Al Jazeera, and said One Nation would not have engaged with the NRA or Koch Industries had it not been for Muller's approaches.  She said footage had been heavily edited, taken out of context and accused Australian media of being biased against her.  “Journalism ethics are on the line today,” she said. She added her views on Port Arthur were that a lone gunamn was responsible, and said that man should have been given the death penalty.

Hanson confirmed her chief of staff James Ashby and lead Senate candidate for Queensland, Steve Dickson, would both remain.

Her only previous statement had come in a Tweet, where Hanson said: “I was shocked & disgusted with the Al Jazeera hit piece. A Qatari government organization should not be targeting Australian political parties. This has been referred to ASIO. After the full hit piece has been released I’ll make a full statement & take all appropriate action.

It would be de rigour for Latham to resign from One Nation. If he does not, he would show to the world that he is just an opportunistic bastard which he is anyway, but this empty gesture would tell us he still has got an ounce of judgement in his shitty pigeon-loft.

... "And on the ninth day, God said: "guns are good"... Genesis 23:40:57

the one-nation's prayer...

After having seen far-right Australian politician Steve Dickson from One Nation mention guns and god in the same sentences, many times, and knowing that Jesus Christ, who told us to show "the other cheek" to confuse the enemy into surrender, would approve at least two automatic weapons in every homes, cars and caravans (for grey nomads and prepers alike), one can only see that the Lord's Prayer be rewritten to suit this modern world synergy:

Our Gunsmith, which shoots in heaven,
Hallowed be thy Trigger.
Thy Killdom shall come.
Shooting will be done on earth,
As it is done in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bullets
And forgive us our near misses,
As we try to kill those who annoy us,
And lead us onto the shooting range,
to deliver us from regulations,
For the gun is the kingdom,
The power and the glory,
For ever and ever.
Amen.

meanwhile, the great ditherer from the boganshire...

Another brilliant cartoon by Cathy Wilcox: The Great Scummo hesitated to place One Nation candidates last (not quite, but after Labor) on its Libs how to vote preferences cards, but eventually capitulated. The Great Tomato Joyce, the man who sleeps and makes babies with his hat and boots on, was not so accommodating on the directive. On RN (Radio National) he explained that should One Nation presents a better candidate than the Labor one (which would be difficult, even if Labor has a Kelpie for candidate), the "bush" (the countryside — which in this country is so vast, that some electorates are twice the size of Belgium and the UK combined), of which he was leader once, before he sowed wild oats with his willy-nilly, will place One Notion above Labor. But in New South Wales, god bless them, it's the Shooters and Fishers Party that tends to displace the Libs and the Nats (short for the Gnats Party) from their destroy the planet platform, while One Notion looks like the party of angels in this company. Oh boy, we are in trouble.

The list on the left should also mention "global warming denialists"...

in fear of james ashby...

A New South Wales court has heard United Australia Party Senator Brian Burston and his wife are living "in fear" of Pauline Hanson's chief of staff James Ashby.

Key points:
  • United Australia Party Senator Brian Burston applied for an apprehended violence order against Pauline Hanson's chief of staff James Ashby
  • The application was prompted by a scuffle between the two at Parliament House in February which was captured on camera
  • The matter was adjourned until May and the case will also go to the Community Justice Centre to see if it can be resolved via mediation

Senator Burston, a former One Nation member, applied for an apprehended violence order (AVO) against Mr Ashby in the Toronto Local Court today, near Newcastle.

scuffle between Mr Ashby and Senator Burston at Parliament House in Canberra in February, which was filmed, sparked the AVO application.

At the time, Senator Burston said in a statement, the footage did not depict the full incident.

'Not your garden variety' AVO

Senator Burston's solicitor, Stephens Churches told the court this is "not your garden variety" AVO.

He said "there's an allegation of assault upon the complainant's wife" and an assault on my client.

he apologised sincerely for his bad behaviour...

One Nation Senate candidate for Queensland Steve Dickson has resigned after footage was released of him making derogatory comments and touching a dancer in a US strip club.

Key points:
  • Steve Dickson said he was remorseful for his comments captured in the footage
  • In it Mr Dickson referred to one dancer as a "b**ch" and made comments about white and Asian women
  • He also asked a dancer to touch him, which she refused, and slipped money into another dancer's lingerie

Mr Dickson said in a statement he apologised sincerely for his behaviour.

"The footage shown does not reflect the person I am. It shows a person who was drunk and not in control of his actions and I take full responsibility for allowing that to happen," he said.

The vision was recorded during an undercover investigation by Al Jazeera but aired for the first time by Nine's A Current Affair on Monday.

It was filmed as part of the same operation which last month revealed Mr Dickson and party advisor James Ashby travelled to the US last year seeking campaign help from lobby groups like the National Rifle Association (NRA).

The newly released recordings showed Mr Dickson talking disparagingly about the dancers with fake gun rights advocate Rodger Muller in the Washington club.

One Nation staffer James

One Nation staffer James Ashby has failed to secure millions from the federal government for an earlier lawsuit he filed and may have to pay the Commonwealth’s legal fees in defending the case.

Senator Pauline Hanson’s right-hand man appealed to the Federal Court for the Commonwealth to pay the $4.54 million legal bill he incurred while attempting to sue former parliamentary Speaker Peter Slipper.

He sought a grace payment by the federal finance department but was denied, and submitted this was adverse action contrary to the Fair Work Act.

On Friday, Justice Robert Bromwich dismissed the claim and invited the federal government to apply for costs to be paid by Mr Ashby.

The judge said he was satisfied refusing Mr Ashby the grace payment “falls within the description of the Fair Work Act of being action that is authorised by or under a law of Commonwealth,” and did not constitute adverse action, he said in his judgment.

“It is not in doubt that an important reason why the act of grace application was refused was because Mr Ashby chose to pursue the litigation against Mr Slipper and thereby to incur costs, when alternative and less costly remedies, including the exercise of other workplace rights, were available to him.”

Mr Ashby sued Mr Slipper in 2012, claiming his boss sent inappropriate text messages and made lewd remarks.

After two years in the courts, Mr Ashby dropped the sexual harassment legal action against the former Queensland MP as it approached trial.

A minister from the Gillard government in 2012 permitted a grace payment for Mr Slipper’s legal costs, creating what Mr Ashby said was a power imbalance.

Earlier in the year Mr Ashby’s “conventional judicial review case” was determined adversely against him which left his allegations of breaches of the Fair Work Act and associated judicial review.

After trying and failing in his last-minute bid to amend part of his pleading, the Federal Court dismissed the final portion of his claim on Friday.

“There remains outstanding the issue of costs, which may or may not be sought by the respondents,” Justice Bromwich said.
