PM's right hand man asks: what's email?

By Nicolette Burke

Article from Daily Terror

Prime Minister John Howard's right hand man yesterday admitted he was Internet luddite who had never sent an email in his life.

The NSW Senator yesterday gatecrashed Labor communications spokesman Senator Conroy's press conference in Parliament House, standing directly behind him and pulling faces as a running commentary.

At issue was Labor's plan to build a super-fast broadband network reaching 98 per cent of Australians as a joint venturer with a private company.

Labor estimates its plan would cost the Government $4.7 billion, of which $2.7 billion would come from Telstra shares now held in the Future Fund, created to pay the Commonwealth's $150 billion superannuation bill by 2020.

Senator Conroy praised the scheme to reporters and for the first few minutes was unaware he was being mocked from behind.

But he reacted quickly when Senator Heffernan broke silence to say, "Pity about the Future Fund".

"It's good to see that another Government member is out here supporting Labor's broadband plan and we thank Bill for that," said Senator Conroy.

"I've never sent an email in my life," said Senator Heffernan, who is seen on some matters as an agent for Prime Minister John Howard.

Rotten cooks

From the ABC section "you said it"...

Maybe if the public showed more respect for the leaders of the country, politicians would treat each other more respectfully as well. Anna Trevor - Brisbane, Qld

---------------------

Gus: Dear Anna, I do not know you from a bar of soap but I admire your good intention. Problem is... I'm too old and I've seen revolutions and blue murder — all performed in the name of getting in power. You may think of politics as a respectful business but below the surface of regulated "honorable this and that" there is a strong undercurrent of dirty tricks within parties and outside parties that make the Iraq war look like kids play... Sorry, my metaphor here is insensitive and outta line, but even in Australian politics, there has been some murders, bombings (you may be too young to remember the Sydney Hilton) and framing of people in one's own party to secure votes for leadership... Sex romp galore, compromising of people who become your humble servant under the blackmail of being exposed as deviant or such... Not all politicians are so caught in the web, there are some who are definitely honorable and believe in better ideals but it can not been excluded that those who rise to the top have to make deals or have "nasty" head-kickers-hunch-men-right-hand-men to reach that top. Respect for some politicians is not possible when one knows the grubby tactics they have used, including preselection run downs, and behaving in a fiefdom like royalty in which democracy is the first casualty.

Hold fast to your dreams, dear Anna, but do not believe the one's from some politicians... Respect for democracy sure, not respect for the rotten cooks.

Yes, but can they not do emails?

In his regular column of TV program reviews in the SMH, Doug Anderson writes:'

"The Chaser's War on Everything 9pm. ABC. Good taste has never been high on the agenda of this refractory program which vigorously takes the piss out of everything including itself. The Chaser's brand of anarchy particularly upsets blokes such as Bill Heffernan because they're smart enough to see these insouciant guys are probably leaders who will eventually replace them."

scheming or idiot senator?

Heffernan sorry for 'inappropriate' Gillard remarks

Liberal Senator Bill Heffernan has apologised to Julia Gillard for declaring she is not fit to be the deputy prime minister because she does not have children.

Senator Heffernan called Labor's deputy leader "deliberately barren" and said having children would help her understand the community better.

Ms Gillard has shrugged off the comments.

"Mr Heffernan, like the Howard Government, overall is a man who's stuck in the past," she said.

Treasurer Peter Costello thinks the remarks are out of line.

"It's nobody's business who has children or what their reasons are," Mr Costello said.

"I don't comment on it and I suggest other people don't comment on it."

Prime Minister John Howard agrees.

"I don't approve of those sorts of comments and I've made that very clear," he said.

Late this afternoon, Senator Heffernan issued a written apology, saying his remarks were inappropriate and insensitive.

----------------------

Gus: for someone who has allegedly been "dirt-filing" a lot of people — including "possibly" some power-brokers in his own party, from the early 1980s, in order to pave the way for Johnnee's crowning glory — what he's just done, deliberately of course, to Julia Gillard is like painting a wall with spray cans then trying to remove it with a dry cloth, leaving a lot of dirty marks on the wall. He knows it.

He knows the penetration of his remark in the psyche of people, even after having "apologised". The same remark was made to Bob Carr... In my book I would not accept the apology from a man who deliberately does this kind of stunt (remember Justice Kirby). If he did not do it deliberately he would be an idiot and unfit to be a senator. If he did it deliberately, he is scheming senator, unfit to be a senator. He should go. The Primus Rattus has only one option: sack Heffernan, whether he approves of the comments or not...

some mothers do 'ave em .....

Yes Gus,

Heffernan is Howard.

We can only wonder if their mothers might have followed Gillard's life choices if they'd been blessed with the ability to see into the future & realize what despicable creatures their sons would become.

Gillard has lost nothing from this episode, whilst rattus & his prime point man are further diminished .... if that is possible.

Labor MPs say Heffernan should be sacked

Calls are mounting for Liberal Senator Bill Heffernan to be sacked over his comments about deputy Labor leader Julia Gillard.

Last night Senator Heffernan said sorry to Ms Gillard for saying she was "deliberately barren" and unfit for leadership.

"I apologise to all the people that's offended, so there you go," he said.

Referring to himself as Australia's most disgraced senator, Senator Heffernan apologised after a torrent of condemnation.

Labor MP Annette Ellis says his apology is not good enough.

"I don't believe that he understands or accepts the severity of what he's done," she said.

She says he no longer deserves to have a career in public office.

------------------

Gus: ... but the man is too precious a "handyman fixer" for the PM because his little stunts such as this are created to distract the public from the real issues, while planting the seeds of doubt depite apologies, especially those that end with a "so there you go..." rottenly posted. Heffernan would have to know even if the Libs lose more ground in the immediate future, it would only be in the ranks of the deep left, while some of "their" rotten shock jocks will pick up the issue and drag in more "discussion" bringing in more doubting mud, entering the psyche of the swinging masses as a reasonable proposition.

Heffernan is unfit to be a Senator of the Crown.

legally brunette...?

Power case compromises legal community: Heffernan

Liberal Senator Bill Heffernan has seized on a recent child pornography case as proof the legal community has links to sexual crimes.

In a Senate Estimates hearing, Senator Heffernan has questioned the Australian Federal Police (AFP) Commissioner about the child porn case involving the former New South Wales Crown Prosecutor Patrick Power.

Earlier this month Power was given a 15-month jail term for the possession of child pornography.

Senator Heffernan has told the committee three of Power's referees were also named several years ago in a document listing alleged child abuse offenders.

"And I think that's a sad indictment of what's going on in the community," he said.

"For many years I have said that there is a serious compromise at work in our legal and judicial circles and the quicker we get beyond denial on this the better."

-----------------------

Gus: Is the legal profession, the only "professional" domain of this caper? Is there NO politician or "political power broker" (if we can stretch the imagination to call politicians "professionals") who never indulged in a bit of funny business without realising they were (are?) set up to be induced (blackmailed?) into "total loyalty" in exchange for silence? Is this one of the way "dirt filing" work? Does Senator Heffernan knows anything on this possibility?

high-ranking politicians, police and judiciary...

A woman who alleges she was a child victim of the paedophile ring named by Liberal senator Bill Heffernan said she had repeatedly reported the abuse to authorities but no action had been taken.

Speaking outside the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse, Fiona Barnett called on the authorities to investigate the alleged ring, which she believes is still operating.

Ms Barnett alleged the ring involved hundreds of perpetrators, including a political elte, such as a former governor-general and a former education minister, but she did not name them.

"Throughout my childhood I was a victim of Australia's VIP child sex trafficking ring," she said.

"The people involved in this elite paedophile ring included high-ranking politicians, police and judiciary."

Ms Barnett, 45, said she had reported her abuse to health care professionals, the NSW and Australian Federal Police and the royal commission but felt her claims were not taken seriously.

And the name of the organising "Madam" was... I know a few people who are going to run for cover while trying to get a few good lawyers... Unfortunately, I believe Fiona... And how would Senator Heffernan know about and name a paedophile ring?
