Pacific Highway a priority, PM tells Vic

Victoria will not miss out on funding in any pre-election road-funding blitz, Prime Minister John Howard said.

Responding to a News Ltd report that his government would next week announce a $5 billion roads package that snubs Victoria, Mr Howard said Victoria would be "fairly treated".

But he refused to commit to any new roads funding for the state, instead nominating the Pacific Highway, linking Sydney and Brisbane, as being a priority.

"Let me put it this way, Victoria will be fairly treated, there's no way Victoria's going to be dudded and people who suggest that are just trying to beat this up," he told Southern Cross Broadcasting.

Labor Demands Details Of Roads Pledge

------------------

Gus: Like many other public services in Australia, like education and health, the PM has starved the Pacific Highway of proper funds for more than a decade. Now in an act of generous rolling the salted herring barrel, he pledges a 1 billion bux to fix the potholes... May people see that as a non-core tarring and feathering of the electorate after the elections, should he be re-elected by donkeys' votes...

massive barrelling to save the PM's bacon

Coalition pledges $2.4b for Pacific Hwy upgrade

The Federal Government is announcing more money for roads today, with a promise of $2.4 billion to upgrade the Pacific Highway.

But the State Government wants to see details of the plan before it commits, fearing an "election stunt".

Prime Minister John Howard will join Transport Minister Mark Vaile today in Grafton, which is in the marginal seat of Page in northern New South Wales, to announce the money.

Mr Vaile wants the NSW Government to match the funds and says the upgrade will help cut the road toll.

-------------------------

Gus (representing the Federal Government): "Hello, Gullible people of this wonderful land of pickpockets.... For ten years we've reduced funds for this "Federally funded project" and "your dollars at work (actually: snoozing)", etc... to a trickle... Now as our glorious Captain Porkie himself's life is in danger of being rolled-barrelled for ever after, we bring you a truck of cash — of course to be matched by the Union Bosses' ruled States as to drain their train coffers, which once we're re-elected, we'll be leaving the State holding the baby since we've got no intention of honouring this grand larceny pledge of non-core pig lard...

Hey, We had eleven years to do sumpthin' and we did nothin'!!!... Isn't the world grand (larceny)?"

Gus (as himself): Throw Johnnee — and his bunch of liars — out with their dirty bath water...

And let Rudd do the Pacific Highway upgrade...

Johnnee got to go-go-go!!!

No need for erasable white boards...

PM pledges $20m for road funding in marginal WA seat

The Prime Minister John Howard has pledged $20 million to build overpasses on a busy highway while campaigning in the marginal seat of Stirling in Perth.

------------------

Gus: the PM is doing his pork barrelling in full view of everyone, and he is proud of it. No need for Ros Kelly's white-board... Things that should have been done way-before become the dangling carrots to voters, bringing the pork barrel in full natural light... Really, if something needs to be done, it will be done by the Labor government as well... But a lot of what the Primster is announcing smells of promises made solely to be re-elected... Then who knows, these rock solid roads could become sandy tracks like the promises made on Medicare at the last elections... "genuine offers" could become non-commitments or no-core promises or carry a caveat for the State governments to match the offer — eventually the States having to pay for the whole of Howard's generous lot... Get rid of John Howard. Simple.
