looking after the common man .....

looking after the common man .....

Does Kevin Rudd have a butler?

Poor is the new rich.

So 'Bare-Arse' Brendan Nelson and his shadow treasurer, Malcolm 'Totally Broke' Turnbull, did everything they could yesterday to expose Kevin 'Rolling In It' Rudd and Wayne 'Squillionaire' Swan as mean and out of touch.

For a couple of guys who claim to dislike the whole concept of class warfare, they gave it quite a tilt yesterday.

They held forth movingly on behalf of those who struggled unbearably under the oppression of rising grocery prices and robbery at the bowser.

Mr Turnbull's past view - that the inflation crisis is imaginary - was quite forgotten.

Bare-arsed numbers...

Nelson's numbers slump despite petrol woes

The latest opinion poll shows the Federal Government has extended its lead over the Opposition, despite concerns about rising petrol prices.

The Opposition is keeping up the pressure over rising petrol prices, seeing it as an issue which is hurting the Government.

The Prime Minister Kevin Rudd says he understands that motorists are under pressure.

"I accept responsibility for the Government, I accept the criticism which is forthcoming," he said.

But that criticism is not revealed in the latest opinion poll, nor is the controversy surrounding Federal Labor backbencher Belinda Neal.

The Newspoll in today's Australian newspaper shows the Government has gained two points in the two-party preferred race, to sit on 59 per cent, while the Opposition has dropped two to 41.

Brendan Nelson has again slipped back in his rating as preferred prime minister - falling four points to 13 per cent.

Mr Rudd has gained two points to be on 68 per cent.
