murder from camp amerika .....

When President Barack Obama took office last year, he promised to "restore the standards of due process and the core constitutional values that have made this country great." Toward that end, the president issued an executive order declaring that the extra-constitutional prison camp at Guantánamo Naval Base "shall be closed as soon as practicable, and no later than one year from the date of this order."

Obama has failed to fulfill his promise. Some prisoners there are being charged with crimes, others released, but the date for closing the camp seems to recede steadily into the future. Furthermore, new evidence now emerging may entangle Obama's young administration with crimes that occurred during the George W. Bush presidency, evidence that suggests the current administration failed to investigate seriously-and may even have continued-a cover-up of the possible homicides of three prisoners at Guantánamo in 2006.

Late on the evening of June 9 that year, three prisoners at Guantánamo died suddenly and violently. Salah Ahmed Al-Salami, from Yemen, was thirty-seven. Mani Shaman Al-Utaybi, from Saudi Arabia, was thirty. Yasser Talal Al-Zahrani, also from Saudi Arabia, was twenty-two, and had been imprisoned at Guantánamo since he was captured at the age of seventeen. None of the men had been charged with a crime, though all three had been engaged in hunger strikes to protest the conditions of their imprisonment. They were being held in a cell block, known as Alpha Block, reserved for particularly troublesome or high-value prisoners.

As news of the deaths emerged the following day, the camp quickly went into lockdown. The authorities ordered nearly all the reporters at Guantánamo to leave and those en route to turn back. The commander at Guantánamo, Rear Admiral Harry Harris, then declared the deaths "suicides." In an unusual move, he also used the announcement to attack the dead men. "I believe this was not an act of desperation," he said, "but an act of asymmetrical warfare waged against us." Reporters accepted the official account, and even lawyers for the prisoners appeared to believe that they had killed themselves. Only the prisoners' families in Saudi Arabia and Yemen rejected the notion.

The American Civil Liberties Union today made public an analysis of new and previously released autopsy and death reports of detainees held in U.S. facilities in Iraq and Afghanistan, many of whom died while being interrogated.  The documents show that detainees were hooded, gagged, strangled, beaten with blunt objects, subjected to sleep deprivation and to hot and cold environmental conditions.

""There is no question that U.S. interrogations have resulted in deaths,"" said Anthony D. Romero, Executive Director of the ACLU.  ""High-ranking officials who knew about the torture and sat on their hands and those who created and endorsed these policies must be held accountable.  America must stop putting its head in the sand and deal with the torture scandal that has rocked our military.""

The documents released today include 44 autopsies and death reports as well as a summary of autopsy reports of individuals apprehended in Iraq and Afghanistan.  The documents show that detainees died during or after interrogations by Navy Seals, Military Intelligence and ""OGA"" (Other Governmental Agency) -- a term, according to the ACLU, that is commonly used to refer to the CIA.

According to the documents, 21 of the 44 deaths were homicides.   Eight of the homicides appear to have resulted from abusive techniques used on detainees, in some instances, by the CIA, Navy Seals and Military Intelligence personnel.  The autopsy reports list deaths by ""strangulation,"" ""asphyxiation"" and ""blunt force injuries.""  An overwhelming majority of the so-called ""natural deaths"" were attributed to ""Arteriosclerotic Cardiovascular Disease.""

Does the world have a cancer? Is it curable?

Whether or not Barak Obama is fair dinkum in his efforts to turn around the absolute evil that the G.W. Bush/Cheney administration was able to perform and which exacerbated the crimes of several previous governments when America seemed to be successful in "pulling the wool" over the eyes of any nation who treated them with respect - a respect that they have so progressively abused.

If we take from the American paranoia the specter of "rag heads" paddling their Dows over the pacific ocean and using the "freedom" of the US to learn to fly airplanes and to be observed by the multitude of "investigative and in competition" agencies (which cost their taxpayers a fortune but), because of their competition with each other, they are virtually impotent.

If this paranoid nation has been trained to accept a flag with ancient values of protection of freedom, then WHY would the likes of G.W. Bush and his mentor Cheney claim that the world “hates them for their values”?

The fact is that “their values” are the ultimate control of the entire world.

Just an aside.  I have served with Americans, usually young and so involved with the invincibility and protection of their flag that they are unaware of the true feelings of the people that they so “religiously” have to kill for the benefit of their masters – viz the US Military/Corporate – and the reason for which they die. Not for their nation but for the business of war.

And the crimes that they commit, especially the mercenaries who kill for money alone, are supposed to be justified by the medals or dollars, that they, or their families, may consider as a commendation for murder and terrorism.

I would suggest that, with all of the small voices of decency that we hear from the American people, especially the demonstration of relief that we witnessed when Barak Obama became President of the US, without their own revolution (God forbid) only more disasters like the financial downturn in the entire world will expose the false stability of the present day United States of America.

And the architects of the financial problems will make enormous profits like Goldman Sachs?

God Bless Australia.  NE OUBLIE.
