Australia's Future Civil Liberty.....How We Wll Live

The  line on  the paper shouted from the shelf... "The most important civil liberty I have, and you have, is to stay alive and to be free from violence and death," said Australia's Prime Minister.
It would be wise to look at these words from all angles..  Fair enough to suggest that society may need to make cultural compromises,   But to infer that we need to accept what happens without question in the faith that we are thereby being kept alive suggests that we are not going to like what we are going to be told by our would-be cultural messiahs

How soon could the freedom to exchange ideas be eradicated ?  Content filters scan email and reject combinations of words that a terrorist would never use on the internet, but protesters would, "One man's terrorist is another's freedom fighter" could get you jailed in Blair's U.K., new defamation laws will make writing of the "military-industrial complex" akin to treason.

Protesting against war, long discredited by Mr Howard, could be considered an unpatriotic act, perhaps a crime

"Freedom, by its nature, must be chosen and defended by citizens and
sustained by the rule of law and the protection of minorities
"  said George Bush at his second inauguration..  The Australian version seems to have lost something in the translation

All this "protection from terrorism" seems ironic when our recently retired defence commander is about to go on national television to say that the best solution would be to get the troops out of Iraq.

As another U.S. hero by the name of Benjamin Frankin said "They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety"  While we continue to allow our way of life to be altered, we may be inviting more changes than we bargained for

"He's not the messiah, he's just a naughty boy"

It's been a very busy weekend for Prime Minister Howard.  Not only has he redefining civil liberty, but also seizing power over Australia's uranium

Tomorrow he finally gets total control of the Australian Government

Enough rope

Iraqi Security Forces will be wombat ready, when the US decides to leave. To leave behind, that is, four gigantic military bases - and a staff of, oooooh, say, 40k, to protect those assets.

ISF has a strong core of strength, a length of strong string, a cord of curd, a long chord, or whatever. These chaps are so good, that the Prez will assign them to protect his own personal assets. Both of them are going to Adelaide, downunder, to be Downer's bodyguard.

Now looking forward to wise words from Bob Hill, to interpret Cosgrove's latest dissent, into what Peter really meant to say. It will turn out that he is, in fact, a strong supporter of government policy, and Iraq is not at risk of becoming a Vietnam quagmire. Like, don't be ridiculous, Kerry. Does everyone have to agree with the ABC, now?

A number of intersecting curves of alternative realities prove that, if Saddam had not been displaced, Iraq would have been a first-class training facility for bomb-makers.
