German authorities probing explosions at the Nord Stream gas pipelines have identified a vessel that appears to have been involved in what is widely regarded as an act of sabotage, a host of German media outlets revealed on Tuesday. The yacht, which was reportedly used in the attack on the pipelines, belongs to a Polish-based company owned by two Ukrainians, according to the reports.

Germany’s ARD broadcaster SWR radio and Die Zeit newspaper launched what they called their own joint journalistic investigation into the activities of the German law enforcement authorities involved in this case.

Their findings indicate the yacht set sail from the German northeastern port city of Rostock on September 6, with the explosives and equipment for the operation arriving in Rostock separately in a delivery truck. The yacht was later identified on the Danish island of Christianso, located just north-east of the island of Bornholm, where the pipelines were damaged on September 26, 2022.

The yacht was then returned to the owners, and the investigators managed to find traces of explosives on a table in its cabin, the outlets claim. The act of sabotage was reportedly carried out by a team of six people, including a captain, two divers, two diving assistants, and a female doctor.

The identities or even nationalities of the suspects remain unclear as they had “professionally forged passports,” which they also used to rent the yacht in the first place, according to German media outlets. The German authorities have also reportedly found no evidence that might point to who might have ordered the pipelines to be sabotaged.

According to ARD, SWR and Die Zeit, a Western secret service organization allegedly tipped off some European “partner services” shortly after the explosions, saying that a “Ukrainian commando” unit was responsible for the attack. The media outlets also claimed there had been “further intelligence indications” that a pro-Ukrainian group could be behind it.

The German government has not commented on the information presented by the media so far. A few days ago, Sweden, Denmark and Germany “informed the United Nations Security Council that the investigations are ongoing and that there are still no results,” a government spokesman declared on Tuesday. Kiev denied any involvement in the incident when contacted by the German media.

Citing some anonymous US intelligence officials, the New York Times on Tuesday reported that a “pro-Ukrainian group” was behind the September 2022 attacks. “No American or British nationals were involved,” it added.

The NYT also said that the bombs that tore apart three out of four pipeline strings at the bottom of the Baltic Sea were “most likely” planted by experienced divers, who might have received “specialized government training in the past.”

Who is the author of the sabotage of the Nord Stream gas pipelines? Six months after the explosions, there is still no official response. According to a former head of the French military mission to the UN, who dismisses Russian responsibility, the absence of results from the three Western investigations on this subject shows that we are trying to hide them.

The absence of results from the three inquiries opened in the West to elucidate the acts of sabotage on the Nord Streams would suggest that someone wants to hide them, said General Dominique Trinquand, former head of the French military mission to the UN, on March 3 on the French television channel LCI.

"The question of 'Who benefits from the crime?' must be asked […]. It is certain that these pipes belong to a Russian company and that therefore the crime, a priori, would not benefit the Russians. What strikes me: you have a German investigation, a Swedish investigation, a Danish investigation which, a priori, recovered a lot of elements. But we don't really have any conclusions. It's that probably there are conclusions that we don't want to give said the general.

Hersh's article would be believable?

According to General Trinquand, Pulitzer Prize winner Seymour Hersh's article on the responsibility of the United States and Norway in the sabotage of Nord Stream can be considered reliable. The senior official notes that anyone can verify the routes of the ships mentioned in the document.

He salutes the efforts of the American journalist who reconstructed the NATO maneuver, i.e. "an action of divers in the Baltic Sea and an action of an airplane which throws buoys". The French soldier recalls that all the elements of this investigation can be verified.

For General Trinquand, there would be total silence, even if Washington's responsibility is known to everyone.

"Danes, Norwegians, Germans, Swedes wouldn't say if they knew it was the Americans" He concluded.

The Seymour Hersh Investigation

The very experienced Seymour Hersh published on February 8 the results of his journalistic investigation into the explosions which damaged three of the four pipes of the Nord Stream 1 and 2 pipelines in September, linking Russia to Europe via the Baltic Sea. He claimed American divers planted explosives on the underwater pipes last summer, under the guise of NATO exercises Baltops-2022. Three months later, the Norwegians detonated the bombs, adds Mr. Hersh.

The Pentagon later told Sputnik that the United States had nothing to do with the explosions.

coordinated media hoax campaign.....

Russia reacts to media reports on Nord Stream sabotage

Two new articles alleging Ukrainian involvement in the pipeline blasts look like a coordinated “hoax campaign,” the Kremlin said

Western media reports seeking to identify those responsible for explosions that ruptured the Nord Stream 1 and 2 gas pipelines have the hallmarks of a synchronized misinformation campaign, Kremlin Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov said on Wednesday.

On Tuesday, the New York Times reported, citing US officials and unspecified new intelligence, that a “pro-Ukrainian group” may have been behind the September attack on the pipelines, which connected Russia and Germany under the Baltic Sea. The outlet’s sources also claimed that “no American or British nationals were involved”in the incident.

On the same day, Germany’s ARD broadcaster, SWR radio and Die Zeit newspaper claimed that German investigators looking into the incident had found that the yacht reportedly used in the attack belonged to a Polish-based company owned by two Ukrainians.

Speaking to RIA Novosti, Peskov said he was surprised by the fact that the US officials quoted in the reports could make guesses about the blasts without conducting any investigation.

Obviously, those who have masterminded the [Nord Stream] attack want to divert attention. Obviously, this is a coordinated media hoax campaign.

The Kremlin spokesman also noted that Russia had still not been invited to take part in the investigation.

This is not just strange. It smells like a monstrous crime. At least, the shareholder countries of the pipelines and the UN should demand an urgent transparent investigation, which would involve all parties that could shed light [on the incident],” he said.

Russia’s embassy to the US also commented on the NYT article, with Minister-Counselor Andrey Ledenev saying Moscow perceived the anonymous leaks “as nothing more than an attempt to confuse those who are sincerely trying to get to the bottom of things in this egregious crime.”

He noted that the NYT story “instantly got a ‘green light’ in the local information field.” The diplomat said this development was “especially noteworthy” given the attempts by local officials and journalists to “blatantly silence” the bombshell report released by the Pulitzer Prize winner Seymour Hersh on the same topic.

He was referring to an article published by the renowned journalist on February 8, which laid the blame on Washington for orchestrating the attacks on the infrastructure. The White House has denied responsibility, calling the allegation “utterly false and complete fiction.”

seized costs included.....

The sanctioned superyacht Alfa Nero has racked up vast unpaid bills since being moored in Antigua's Falmouth Harbor last April, Bloomberg reported this week. It reportedly costs tens of thousands of dollars per month just to keep the vessel afloat.

The yacht, which is believed to be owned by sanctioned Russian fertilizer billionaire Andrey Guryev, measures 82 meters and boasts luxury amenities that include seven staterooms, a gym, a spa and a pool that doubles as a helipad.

The Alfa Nero has not been moved since arriving on the island, part of the Caribbean nation of Antigua and Barbuda, after the US and the UK imposed sanctions on its purported owner following the outbreak of hostilities in Ukraine last year.

The $120 million floating palace was recently deemed a hazard to the harbor and marine environment as it needs to burn diesel constantly to power everything on board. The crew of the vessel has not been paid, nor has the provider of the fuel that the vessel has consumed since its arrival on the island.

Of the 44 crew members only six remain on the yacht while 25 members have sued to recover $2.1 million in unpaid wages, Bloomberg wrote citing Craig Jacas, a local lawyer representing them. Crew expenses alone cost $112,000 a month, the news agency said.

"Our clients' objective is simply to secure what is lawfully owed to them," Jacas said.

Antigua and Barbuda authorities have asked the US to lift the sanctions on the yacht so that they can sell what they consider an abandoned ship.

"Nobody's laid claim to it, nobody's been paying its bills. It's been running up money left, right and center, and it has become a risk to the harbor itself," Sir Ronald Sanders, the country’s ambassador to the US, told Bloomberg.

The Antigua and Barbuda government has said it has received 20 bids for the vessel. However, the Alfa Nero cannot be auctioned as long as the US considers it a "blocked" property.

Last week, the Caribbean nation’s authorities announced they were "drawing ever closer" to selling the superyacht to a buyer.

"The proceeds from the sale will go towards paying the debts incurred since the vessel sailed into Antigua's harbors more than one year ago. The overage will go into the Consolidated Fund operated by the Antigua and Barbuda Treasury," the government said in a statement.

The US and its allies have imposed sanctions against a number of wealthy Russians over the past year in response to Moscow's military operation in Ukraine. More than two dozen luxury vessels worth about $4 billion have been impounded in ports around the world.
