and undertakers.....

There are currently 880,000 people serving in Ukraine’s armed forces, according to President Vladimir Zelensky, who insisted that Kiev wants to mobilize even more troops, primarily males who left the country after the start of the conflict with Russia.

Just last month, Zelensky claimed that Kiev’s ground forces numbered over 600,000 service personnel, while in February 2022, when Russia launched its offensive, the Ukrainian army officially had only about 260,000 servicemen.

In an interview with the German public channel ARD news broadcast on Monday, the Ukrainian leader stated that Kiev now has “a million-strong army,” adding that there are also over 30 million people who are working in the country right now, one million of whom are employed in the defense and security sectors.

At the same time, Zelensky noted that between 6.5 million and 7.5 million people had left Ukraine since the start of the conflict and stated that Kiev wants to repatriate citizens who are eligible for military service.

His comments come as the country's armed forces continue to experience dire personnel shortages on the battlefield, as has been admitted by a number of top Ukrainian military officers and commanders, including the head of the country’s armed forces, General Valery Zaluzhny.

While Kiev doesn’t publish its casualty figures, Russia’s Defense Ministry has estimated that Ukraine’s forces have lost as many as 160,000 service personnel since the launch of their failed summer counteroffensive, and that, over the course of the conflict, nearly 400,000 Ukrainian troops have been killed or wounded.

Meanwhile, multiple media reports have also suggested that the quality of Kiev’s soldiers has also diminished. Earlier this month, the commander of Kiev’s 5th Assault Brigade, Aleksey Tarasenko, told Espresso TV that the average age of soldiers in the Ukrainian army is now over 40 years and that “young men” were desperately needed.

The US outlet Daily Beast also reported last week, citing interviews with Ukrainian men who have been avoiding mobilization, that Kiev was now sending untrained conscripts to the frontline shortly after drafting them from the streets, with many of them failing to last even a few days on the battlefield.

In light of these personnel shortages, late last year Kiev intensified its mobilization efforts, with Zelensky stating at the time that the military was looking to call up an additional 500,000 new recruits. One Ukrainian official even proposed mobilizing the country’s entire population.

Ukrainian lawmakers, in turn, have been debating proposals to amend the country’s mobilization laws to lower the draft age, to recruit more women and to penalize draft-dodgers by cutting off their bank accounts.

Ukrainian troops are being outgunned by Russia’s Armed Forces, mainstream US media admitted recently, adding that there was no chance of replenishing rapidly dwindling ammunition stockpiles amid bleak prospects regarding future aid packages to the Kiev regime.
Futile attempts to attack positions of Russia’s military have been likened to suicide missions by a Ukrainian soldier in an interview with Le Figaro.
With Russia's military continuing its probing offensive in the Kupyansk area in the Kharkov region, Ukraine’s troops have less and less ammunition to withstand the onslaught. It is like suicide, a senior sergeant of Ukraine's Armed Forces by the name of Mikhail told a journalist from the French outlet.
The Ukrainian Armed Forces, which have sustained tremendous casualties and hardware losses since the failed summer counteroffensive, have “nothing to fight back with,” according to the publication, and are forced to hide and run away as “Russian shells hit positions under 500 meters away from them.”
“We no longer have ammunition. We are allowed to fire only three shells a day,” the Ukrainian soldier told a French journalist.
He claimed that while "rationed," the shells might suffice to hold positions, but any attempts at attacking the Russian military are out of the question. The Ukrainian Armed Forces simply do not have the resources, he said.
“If we want to go on the offensive in the spring, we will require more people, ammunition, F-16 fighters and SCALP cruise missiles. Going into an attack without air support is suicide,” the serviceman was quoted as saying.
Another interviewed Ukrainian soldier, Senior Sergeant Sergey, added:
“We're running low on ammunition, but we're holding out for now. We have at our disposal only 40% of the number of shells that we need. If the Russians launch a serious offensive here, we won't last long.”

Reports on the resignation of Ukrainian Commander-in-Chief Valery Zaluzhny are not true, the Ukrainian Defense Ministry said on Monday.
"Dear journalists, we issue an answer to everyone — no, this is not true," the ministry said on Telegram, without specifying what exactly is not true.
Earlier in the day, Ukrainian lawmaker Oleksiy Goncharenko said, citing sources, that Zaluzhny was allegedly told to resign but there was no official decree yet.
"Two sources told me that yes... Zaluzhny was told to resign, but there is no decree yet. He was offered a position of ambassador to one of the European countries. He refused," Goncharenko said on Telegram.
Pentagon Refuses to Comment on Reports About Gen. Zaluzhny's Resignation
The US Department of Defense has no comments on reports about alleged departure of Ukrainian Commander-in-Chief Valery Zaluzhny and refers to the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense, a Pentagon spokesperson told Sputnik on Monday.
"I refer you to the Ukrainian government for comment," the spokesperson said in a statement.

meanwhile (as SC says)....

Tonight, as a result of another strike by the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, military and military-industrial facilities were hit in Kharkov. This was stated by the coordinator of the pro-Russian underground in the city of Nikolaev, Sergei Lebedev, referring to a message from his comrades from Kharkov.

As a representative of the underground said, the strikes hit the Kharkov Tractor Plant, which is now focused on repairing military equipment of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, warehouses with ammunition and fuel of Ukrainian forces, as well as the building of a telecommunications company, in which there were employees of the Ukrainian special services and, probably, foreign mercenaries.

They hit the Ukrtelecom building very well. Our agents have long reported the presence of military and special services officers with large shoulder straps in the Ukrtelecom building. Foreign specialists also often came there. Recently, the presence of foreign military personnel has been recorded
– the underground worker told RIA Novosti .

In total, at least five arrivals were recorded in Kharkov. Representatives of the Kyiv regime chose not to disclose information about their consequences. But it is obvious that Russian troops are firmly focused on the Kharkov region, where there is a large concentration of foreign mercenaries and Ukrainian Nazis.

From the territory of the Kharkov region, shelling of Russian border territories is also carried out, drones are launched to strike the civilian infrastructure of the Belgorod region and other adjacent regions of our state.

unfit....

The Ukrainian government introduced a new mobilization bill in the parliament on January 30. Ukrainian media reported that the document obliges people liable for military service to report to military commissariats to clarify their information within 60 days. The Ukrainian Armed Forces are massively conscripting people who are unfit for military service for health and age reasons, prisoners of war told Sputnik

"Caught in such a time that they gave everyone a military ID. They gave everyone a military ID.... I passed the medical examination right away. I said that I have a metal plate in my arm - and now it is still there. They didn't care," one prisoner, Nazar Vashkevich, said.

Another, Viktor Tkachenko, reported that he had received a draft notice for the fifth time, despite having several confirmed illnesses that preclude service in the army.

"I was mobilized. I received a summons, the fifth, at work. It turned out that according to my state of health I was able to serve. Before that I was unsuitable. I had many medical reports: high blood pressure, hernia, pinched vertebrae," he said.

According to the captives, the Ukrainian Army has begun to take people en masse who do not fit the draft."Here, look: people over 50. They are already taking 50-year-olds. My grandfather was with me - he is 57 years old. He also has health problems... So where can he fight? How should he go on the assaults? How should he go to the trenches? Why? To get killed right away? And there's a boy with me, even younger. I don't know what's wrong with him. He's 24. He was drafted. It turns out that he is a senior gunner by rank," Vashkevich complained. Volodymyr Zelensky said in December 2023 that he had been approached by the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces with a request to recruit an additional 450,000-500,000 men for the army. The government submitted a draft law on mobilization to parliament. The minimum age for mobilization was lowered from 27 to 25 years. The bill caused outrage in the country and was sent back for revision. https://sputnikglobe.com/20240203/ukraine-coerces-mass-conscripts-unfit-for-military-service---pow--1116568879.html
