swat teams...

china and bishop...

The foreign affairs minister, Julie Bishop, has expressed concern about China's sudden announcement of an air-defence identification zone over the East China Sea.

The zone, which includes airspace over a small group of islands claimed by both China and Japan, has prompted concerns in Washington and Tokyo since being established on Saturday.

The rocky islets known as the Senkaku by the Japanese or the Diaoyu by the Chinese are surrounded by fisheries and other natural resources.

Bishop said the timing and the manner of China's announcement was unhelpful in light of present regional tensions and would not contribute to regional stability.

"Australia has made clear its opposition to any coercive or unilateral actions to change the status quo in the East China Sea," she said in a statement on Tuesday.

The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade on Monday called in China's ambassador to convey the Australian government's concerns and to seek an explanation of China's intentions.

beware the death stare ....

Gee Gus, that's bound to get China's attention.

I wonder how strong the "death stare" would be if China started to follow Indonesia's example & began cancelling coal purchases?

I know most Ausralians thought Labor was stuffed, but I'm also very sure that they didn't think that they were voting for Mony Python!!!

Cheers,

John.

yes john, the death stare only works on garden gnomes...

Beijing has delivered an angry rebuke over what it says are “irresponsible remarks” made by Foreign Minister Julie Bishop regarding Chinese territorial claims in the East China Sea.

In what is shaping up to be the latest diplomatic headache for the Abbott government in Asia, the Chinese Foreign Ministry released a sternly worded statement on its website on Wednesday saying it had “lodged serious representations” requesting Ms Bishop to correct her statements or risk damaging bilateral relations.

At least, voting for Monty Python would have been fun though possibly silly... BUT NOT AS TRAGIC AND NOT AS SILLY THAN THIS ABBOTT TEAM OF MORONS...

thick as a dumbstick...

Foreign Minister Julie Bishop has refused to back down over comments to China regarding its newly declared air defence zone in the East China Sea, despite an angry response from the Chinese government.

And Treasurer Joe Hockey has supported his Coalition colleague saying she as doing ''exactly the right thing''.

I heard the news... Just before switching over to another radio channel with some traffic music on it, I heard Tony Abbott mutter something "about freedom of the skies"... Boy, I though... Hasn't this kid got his head in the clouds, I thought... It could make sense BUT I thought "freedom of the skies"?... hum...

But imagine Chinese bombers and Russians jet fighters criss-crossing Aussie skies in the spirit of freedom of the skies... You'd be impressed, wouldn't you...?

La Bishop acts tough to look tough, she does it on behalf of the naive Americans who are on the side of Japan on this issue of islands that we know nothing about — due to the way Japan invaded China in the 1930s... and taking side on this issue will eventually blow up in the face of this government...

This is what the brat in Canberra said:

The prime minister has strongly backed the foreign minister, Julie Bishop’s criticism of China’s decision to impose an air-defence zone in the East China Sea, saying it was a case of standing up for Australia’s values.

“I think it’s important for Australia to stand up for its values. We have to be reasonable and proportionate about these things and we have to treat other countries and their leaders with respect and with courtesy but where we think Australia’s values and interests have been compromised, I think it is important to speak our mind,” Abbott said.

“We believe in freedom of navigation and navigation of the seas, navigation of the air … that is why it was important to call the Chinese ambassador and put a point of view to him"

Freedom of NAVIGATION???? WHAT ABOUT THE ASYLUM SEEKERS THAT HE WANTS TO TURN BACK????? Does Abbott listens to himself?... Is he a dummy or the packing box for a dummy?...

bbbzzzzz....

US commercial airlines should observe China's demand to be given notice of aircraft entering its newly declared air defence zone, the State Department has said.

The Pentagon earlier indicated that American military forces would continue normal operations, despite China scrambling fighter jets to monitor US and Japanese aircraft in the area.

China's announcement last weekend that it was extending an air defence identification zone (ADIZ) over islands disputed by China and Japan was disregarded by several nations, and US B-52 bombers entered the area.

"We have flights routinely transiting international airspace throughout the Pacific, including the area China is including in their ADIZ," said Pentagon spokesman Colonel Steve Warren said on Friday.

"These flights are consistent with long-standing and well-known US freedom of navigation policies that are applied in many areas of operation around the world. I can confirm that the US has and will continue to operate in the area as normal."

Compliance by commercial flights "does not indicate US government acceptance of China's requirements for operating in the newly declared defence," the State Department said in a statement.

Echoing previous statements by the US administration, it said the US was "deeply concerned" by China's declaration of the air zone.

the COALition misunderstands the needs of one another...

The Coalition government has refused to take a backward step despite the deepening diplomatic spat with Beijing, with Prime Minister Tony Abbott declaring last week that ''China trades with us because it is in China's interest to trade with us''.

An escalating series of diplomatic gestures by both sides have strained relations since last week after Australia called in China's ambassador on Monday to demand an explanation over the air defence zone.

Ms Bishop defended the government's position on Thursday, arguing that Australia has a key stake in the region and therefore opposes ''action by any side that we believe could add to the tensions or add to the risk of a miscalculation in disputed territorial zones in the region''.

The diplomatic spat over China’s air defence zone has come at a period of already tense relations, after the Abbott government reaffirmed a ban on Chinese telecommunications giant Huawei from bidding on National Broadband Network contracts.

Australian intelligence and security agencies are also investigating suspected Chinese involvement in an industrial espionage case at the nation’s top scientific organisation, the CSIRO.

Ms Bishop had arrived in Beijing from Jakarta, fresh from dealing with another tense diplomatic situation Australia's spying on Indonesia.

She also met with vice-president Li Yuanchao and the head of the ruling Communist Party’s International Department, Wang Jiarui, on Friday.

China can trade with "Siberia" if it has too... There is more coal in Siberia than in most countries of the world combined... But when push comes to shove please study the chart below. China produces more coal than it uses:

coal

Meanwhile China has vowed to cut down its emissions of CO2 by reducing its dependance of coal under 65 per cent by 2017 while presently it is about 75 per cent. Presently Shanghai is experiencing one of the worse pollution ever, worse than in Beijing's worst days — where around 500 outdoor BBQ operated by food vendors have been shut down recently — as they were adding to the already dangerous pollution...

rudeness, actually...

Australia’s top diplomat for north Asia has described China’s public rebuke of the foreign minister, Julie Bishop, as the rudest display he has seen in his career.

It was a candid moment during a heated debate about the status of Australia’s relationship with China, in which Labor suggested the Abbott government was mishandling ties with its biggest trading partner.

Top officials from the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (Dfat) were questioned about the incident in December when Bishop was upbraided by her Chinese counterpart during a news conference in Beijing.

The foreign minister was criticised for “irresponsible” comments after Australia condemned China’s declaration of an air-defence zone over an island chain also claimed by Japan.

The first assistant secretary of Dfat’s north Asia division, Peter Rowe, on Thursday gave a frank assessment of the display from the Chinese foreign minister, Wang Yi.

“I have never in 30 years encountered such rudeness, actually,” he told a Senate estimates hearing on Thursday.

His superior, Dfat secretary Peter Varghese, quickly interrupted by saying foreign ministers often have robust exchanges, even if they are usually not in front of the media.
