sailing in the victorian era, that sinking feeling might still haunt voters...

sinking titanic

The week didn't start well for federal MP Clive Palmer and it's ended badly too with a family home suffering a partially collapsed roof in Brisbane's wild storm.

On Monday, he lost his renegade senator, Jacqui Lambie, when she quit the Palmer United Party. On Wednesday, a trial began in Brisbane into claims he misappropriated $12 million from his Chinese business partners.

Then the worst storm to hit Queensland's southeast in years took aim too, with damage to a family home forcing him to put off a trip to Victoria ahead of this weekend's election.

"The roof caved in at my daughter's house. I was going to go to Victoria today to campaign, but I have delayed it so I can help her. She's a bit distressed," Mr Palmer said.

"I haven't been to the house. I've been comforting her. She's had to remove things out of the house and we've been arranging to get contractors to see if there's been any electrical damage and things like that."

Mr Palmer had been due to hold a press conference in Victoria, then visit his childhood home in Williamstown on Friday.

His Palmer United Party has 19 candidates standing for upper house seats, in the hope of securing the balance of power in the upper house.

We are please that no-one got seriously injured in the Brisbane storm. Quite sorry about his daughter's predicament... but in the light of this, Palmer should rethink his stance on getting rid of the only proper mechanism to reduce Australia's emissions of CO2... Bring the Carbon Pricing back... Tell your little mate Tony...

CONservatives: more police to kick your victorian arses...

HOARSE WHISPERER KEN LAY ON THE OUTER

The hoarse whisperer, Victoria Police's Commissioner Ken Lay, was clearly miffed by the announcement, admitting on ABC radio that he had only been informed of the taskforce the night before.

He was not consulted by either the Prime Minister or Napthine — and yet Tony Abbott extensively quoted Lay's Assistant Commissioner, Stephen Fontana. Hmmm…

Abbott made it clear that he and his buddy Napthine were calling the shots on this one:

“The [Victorian] Premier and I have established a joint police task force to deal firmly, decisively and swiftly with widespread corruption, violence and organised crime connections inside the construction industry.”

Such a pity that IBAC's deliberate judicial architecture is such that does not have the jurisdiction to investigate politicians.

Commissioner Lay is not above playing political games either.

Victoria's latest crime statistics should have been released on Wednesday.

But a couple of months ago, giving time for his political interference to ameliorate, Commissioner Lay announced he was not prepared to release the statistics so close to the election. Really ?

clive, the titanic and the icebergs...

Northern Territory MLAs Alison Anderson and Larisa Lee's reported plan to abandon the Palmer United Party (PUP) is predictable, NT Chief Minister Adam Giles says, after News Corp publications reported Ms Anderson calling the party a "national disgrace".

The duo, who quit the ruling Country Liberals Party (CLP) in March to become independents and then joined the PUP the next month, will become independents again, according to the report in The Australian newspaper.

The PUP has been Ms Anderson's third political party in 10 years after serving with Labor from 2005 to 2009 and then the CLP.

The pair did not return the ABC's calls today.

Mr Giles said in a statement their reported plan to abandon the PUP was "predictable" and he warned party leader Clive Palmer in April this would happen.

"Alison Anderson and Larisa Lee are fair weather friends without any political conviction, who simply can't be trusted," he said.

Clivey, Clivey... You can talk... YOU CANNOT BE TRUSTED EITHER ! You make silly dirty deals with Tony Abbott after having said you would not ! Actually, Alison Anderson and Larisa Lee are after a party that would support their cause to which also they could contribute some knowledge... The only party left for them is to go Green... But there could be conflicts... Independent is the best for them so they can deal with issues rather than who is doing what to whom...

being pressed at the press club...

Mr Palmer suggested he be asked about his year-in review speech, saying, "You haven't got the guts to ask a question on the topic because it's beyond your intellectual capacity, why don't you admit it?"

...

The attack was in stark contrast to the opening of his speech in which he said, "There is no profession more important, no duty more sacred than being a member of the media, protecting the public's right to know and right to knowledge so that people can exercise their democratic franchise in the best interests of the country and the nation".

Mr Palmer is facing legal proceedings in Queensland over allegations he misused funds for his election campaign.

to be sued by the captain of the titanic...

The Palmer United party (PUP) has threatened to sue its former senators Jacqui Lambie and Glenn Lazarus for the millions of dollars it says it spent on getting them elected to federal parliament.

The pair quit PUP, with Lambie this week setting up her own political party.

PUP director Peter Burke said Lambie and Lazarus had “betrayed” all those who voted for the party.

“Australians are tired of politicians saying one thing before an election and then breaking their promises afterwards,” he said.

For the chief of the PUP whose big cheese, Clive Palmer, claimed he would not repeal the carbon tax until there was a retrospective refund from all the money paid into it, it is a bit cheap to harp on about breaking promises... See toon at top...

the dictator of yellow fear...

Clive Palmer’s United Australia party has taken extraordinary steps to avoid a repeat of the “Jacqui Lambie problem” by getting candidates to sign contracts that require them to return $400,000 in election support if they win a seat but subsequently leave the party.

Jacqui Lambie won a Tasmanian Senate seat as a candidate for Palmer United party in 2013, but after a year resigned and set up the Jacqui Lambie Network. The former rugby league star Glenn Lazarus was also elected to the Senate as a Palmer United party candidate in 2013. He quit the party in 2015 over differences with Palmer and started the Glenn Lazarus Team party.

We're hoping for a few defections BEFORE THE ELECTIONS...

Place Palmer last on all election papers... He is a double-crosser...
