ham is unashamedly wrong ... but prepare for the doomsday on friday...

brainwashing

Young Earth Creationist Ken Ham has responded to criticism from Bill Nye "the Science Guy" over the recently opened Ark Encounter in Kentucky, by claiming that Nye is seeking to "brainwash" children and convince them that they're "just animals."

Nye had argued in an interview with NBC News that not only was the life-sized Noah's Ark theme park "disturbing," but on the Ark's third deck, every single one of the science exhibits was supposedly "absolutely wrong."

"Not just misleading, but wrong," Nye said.

Ham, who debated Nye on the topic of Creationism in February 2014, has been posting video clips of Nye's recent visit to the Ark on his Facebook page.

In the latest posting he addressed Nye's comments, by stating that his debate foe is seeking to "convince all children to believe they are just animals who arose by natural processes — and that there's no God!"

Nye, who rejects the idea that the Earth is only 6,000 years old, recalled one encounter in which a young girl at the Ark asked him to change his way of thinking, and insisted that her Creationist-supporting parents are brainwashing her.

Ham said, however, that what Nye really has a problem with is parents teaching their children about God.

"He wants to brainwash kids, to indoctrinate them, in his naturalistic (atheistic) religion of meaninglessness and hopelessness," the Answers in Genesis and Creation Museum president said.

As for Nye's claim that every science exhibit on the third deck of the theme park is wrong, Ham said that "the Science Guy" is being irrational.

Do you want the good news or the bad news? OK, the good news is that you won’t have to buy Christmas presents for everyone.

But the bad news is that the entire world is going to be destroyed in a fortnight’s time (July 29) – with cities collapsing as the Earth’s magnetic poles reverse.

(For some reason, nutty conspiracy theorists are OBSESSED with the idea of the Earth’s poles reversing).

Then a really, really angry Jesus is going to arrive, and kill everyone – except Christians who watch a lot of videos on YouTube, who will all be saved.

meanwhile we are preparing for war...

Throughout the Cold War of the late 20th century, anti-submarine warfare (ASW) was a priority for the West. Following the fall of the Soviet Union, that readiness deteriorated, and a new report suggests that NATO may be unprepared to defend itself against Russia’s modern fleet.

The K-560 Severodvinsk Yasen-class nuclear submarine is one of Russia’s most advanced submersibles. Outfitted with sophisticated noise-reduction and electronic warfare equipment, and armed with long-range cruise missiles, anti-ship cruise missiles, torpedoes, and mines, the vessel can travel up to 35 knots.

WASHINGTON: The balance of power underwater is shifting against the West, warns a new report from the Center for Strategic & International Studies. Both Russian and NATO capabilities cratered after the Cold War, but the Russian submarine fleet is clawing its way back — and we’re not ready to face it, CSIS says. The US, its allies, and the Nordics need to invest in new technology, intense training, and, above all, closer cooperation to counter the resurgent threat.

In South Korea, protests against the deployment of a U.S. missile system continued for a 12th straight day. Residents of Seongju, southeast of Seoul, have held daily demonstrations since their city was announced as the location for the missile base two weeks ago. The South Korean government says it needs the THAAD missile system to counter threats from North Korea. U.S. troops would be deployed along with the missiles. These are two of the protesters.

Protester: "To deploy THAAD in South Korea will not only further worsen the relations between the Republic of Korea and the DPRK, but also negatively affect the situation in Northeast Asia and push South Korea to the brink of war. Therefore, we must oppose it."

Protester: "If THAAD is deployed in Seongju, there will be U.S. forces. I have heard about the scandals involving U.S. troops in other countries, so as a mother with daughters, I am deeply worried and strongly oppose THAAD."

Russia has warned of "irreparable consequences" if the missiles are deployed. China has also said the missiles would threaten stability on the Korean Peninsula.

the human delusion...

Being deluded is the main activity of humans. Despite years of scientific research and clear data, humans prefer to believe easy crap because it's easy to believe crap. The reality is often too difficult to comprehend. We invent irrational rationales that do nothing but elegantly compose an elegant delusion. Hence people will believe in Noah's ark, despite the story not making any sense whatsoever.

Surveys in 2000 indicated that 52 per cent of Americans believed that humans and dinosaurs coexisted. This figure has not changed much. So how come people believe this, considering "modern" human go back about 500,000 years, while civilised humans go back 100,000 years and this present human "civilisation", excluding Oceania/Australia, is about 10,000 years old?

There are various dynamics that make us forget that Dinosaurs became extinct about 65 million years ago. The first delusion comes from religion, especially creationism. The religious delusion is not so much about god but about our individual death. We can't die and vanish forever, can we? Yes we can. So some magic books have been written by professional liars to make sure we conform to the group belief in eternity. The group lies to itself and created rituals around this and other delusions.

One of these delusions come from our childish marvel about these big beast and we are prepared to believe that they still exist.

They don't.

We need to be less mesmerised by delusions and indulge in scientific facts to understand the reality of this little planet.

Climate change is another area of delusion. Global warming is real and anthropogenic. But our media and too many of our technologists still fight the reality, this time for profit.

We deserve better than this.

The “state of the climate” report, led by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (Noaa) with input from hundreds of scientists from 62 countries, confirmed there was a “toppling of several symbolic mileposts” in heat, sea level rise and extreme weather in 2015.

“The impacts of climate change are no longer subtle,” Michael Mann, a leading climatologist at Penn State, told the Guardian. “They are playing out before us, in real time. The 2015 numbers drive that home.”

demolishing a church in debt?...

Twelve riot police cars have arrived to crack down on the sit-down protest in Paris’s 15th district, as dozens demonstrate against the demolition of the local Church of Sainte Rita. Many took to social networks to vent over the situation.

The church has been mined and the demolition is ready to begin, but the protesters - some of them local councilors - refuse to leave. Videos of police dragging protesters emerged online.

A photo from the scene shows police dragging the priest from the church as he refused to leave the mass he was holding.

A parking lot is set to be built in place of the church. Parisians also took to Twitter to speak out against the demolition, and to emphasize how symbolic the events look, especially after the chilling murder of the priest last week.

The leader of the right-wing National Front party Marine le Pen has tweeted, “And what if they built parking lots in the place of Salafist mosques, and not of our churches?”

“Jihadists have slit the throat of a priest. Anne Hidalgo [the mayor of Paris] helps them by destroying churches,” user X_av_ posted.

“The day after the mass for the killed priest, they demolish a church to build a parking… Seriously?”blogger Charles Baudry tweeted.

Le lendemain de l'enterrement d'un prêtre assassiné, on détruit une église à #SainteRitapour en faire un parking ... Sérieusement ?

— Charles Baudry (@CharlesBaudry) August 3, 2016

The church has been officially closed since last year, with the plan to demolish the church in place since October 2015. Sainte Rita has been operational, though, serving a new Catholic parish association.

The hefty sum of €3 million is needed to save the church, according to France TV Info. The owner of the property sold it after he couldn’t pay the rent anymore. However, local clerics say they have nowhere to go if Sainte Rita is destroyed.

“For the moment, no one has offered me anything else. We hold marriages, baptisms, all sorts of ceremonies regularly. We can’t leave just like this if no one offers us anything. Or we’ll celebrate services in the street,” Paris’s archbishop Monseigneur Dominique Philippe told France 3 broadcaster.

fake documentation...

When Washington DC's $US500 million Museum of the Bible held its grand opening in November 2017, attended by Vice-President Mike Pence, there were questions even then about the authenticity of its centrepiece collection of Dead Sea Scrolls.

Key points:
  • German scholars reveal five of the Bible Museum's 16 Dead Sea Scrolls fragments are apparent forgeries
  • Around 2002, a wave of new fragments of the scrolls began mysteriously appearing on the market
  • The Green family, which owns the museum, went on an archaeological acquisition spree in years leading up to museum's opening

Now the museum has been forced to admit a painful truth: technical analysis by a team of German scholars has revealed that at least five of the museum's 16 scroll fragments are apparent forgeries.

The announcement has serious implications not only for the Bible Museum, but for other evangelical Christian individuals and institutions who paid top dollar for what now seems to be a massive case of archaeological fraud.

Jeffrey Kloha, chief curator for the Museum of the Bible, said in a statement that the revelation is "an opportunity to educate the public on the importance of verifying the authenticity of rare biblical artifacts, the elaborate testing process undertaken and our commitment to transparency".

The scrolls are a collection of ancient Jewish religious texts first discovered in the mid-1940s in caves on the western shore of the Dead Sea in what is now Israel. The massive cache of Hebrew documents is believed to date back to the days of Jesus.

With more than 9,000 documents and 50,000 fragments, the entire collection took decades to fully excavate.

At this level of legendary explanation for the world we live in, the Dead Sea Scrolls are a great source of fake documentation. These have been written by fantasists (forgers or not) who, unable to seek the relative truth about energy, time and space, invented the concept of a single vengeful god — unlike the Greeks and the Romans (fantasists as well) who were more generous in their recognition of the fractured elements of nature, in which Venus featured a lot.

The Dead Sea Scrolls helped in the creation of the "chosen people" hubris. That some of these scrolls are fakes is irrelevant. That the whole lot or not may be written on original parchments is irrelevant. The stories told are fake documentation, as relevant as today's fake news. Amen.

the dinos that noah forgot...

Palaeontologists have uncovered the largest dinosaur found in Australia, a long-necked colossus that gives other huge dinosaurs from around the world a run in the heavyweight stakes.

The giant sauropod, now officially named Australotitan cooperensis in a new scientific paper, grew up to 30 metres long and up to six metres high at the hip, making it as long as a basketball court and two storeys tall.

Queensland Museum palaeontologist Scott Hocknull said that made Australotitan the largest dinosaur discovered in Australia, and among the largest discovered worldwide.

“The exciting thing for us is we can put our first hat in the ring for the world’s largest dinosaurs. It’s not the largest in the world, but it’s certainly top 10,” Dr Hocknull said.

Determining the weight of the species was difficult and methods differed, however Dr Hocknull said they were confident of a weight range between 50 tonnes and 70 tonnes, which would easily put it among the heaviest sauropods.

“What’s interesting is it’s very different from the three other sauropod species which have been found around [Queensland town] Winton in the north,” he said.

“It’s much bigger, it’s got wider hips, and it seems to be by itself. There are no other sauropod species in its area and timescale in the same way there are around Winton.”
