simply save the planet: don't vote for scott morrison and his intellectually deficient coal burning troop of liars...

The outrage of the students striking from school over climate change inaction is “certainly justified”, according to Sir David Attenborough, who said older generations had done terrible damage to the planet.

In an interview with the former UN climate chief Christiana Figueres, the broadcaster and naturalist dismissed critics of the widely praised global movement of school strikes as cynics.

“[Young people] understand the simple discoveries of science about our dependence upon the natural world,” he said. “My generation is no great example for understanding – we have done terrible things.”

The protests by young people were enormously encouraging, Attenborough said. “That is the one big reason I have for feeling we are making progress. If we were not making progress with young people, we are done.”

However, asked about the world his great-grandchildren will live in, he said: “I don’t spend time thinking about that because I can’t bear it. I’m just coming up to 93, and so I don’t have many more years around here. I find it difficult to think beyond that because the signs aren’t good.”

On Friday, the youth strikes will continue with protests expected in 485 towns and cities in 72 countries, according to the Fridays for Future website. Greta Thunberg, the Swedish teenager whose solo strike sparked the worldwide action, told politicians this week: “You lied to us. You gave us false hope.”

“Their outrage is certainly justified, there is no doubt about that,” Attenborough told Figueres, who delivered the landmark Paris climate change agreement in 2015.

adani must be stopped...

THE ADANI CARMICHAEL coal mine cannot proceed if Australia is serious about tackling climate change and protecting the Great Barrier Reef, according to the Climate Council.

Today the Environment Minister Melissa Price approved the groundwater management plans for the proposed mine.

How dare this government give its stamp of approval to this appalling project,” said the Climate Council’s Chief Councillor, Professor Tim Flannery.

This project doesn’t stack up economically,  Australians don’t want it and none of the major banks will back it.  It’s the exact opposite of responsible climate policy. Fortunately, there’s still time to stop this insanity,” said Professor Flannery.

The proposed mine in the Galilee Basin has the potential to be a carbon bomb. It poses serious risks to the environment, public health and North Queensland tourism,” said Professor Flannery.

If all the coal in the Galilee Basin was burned, it is estimated that 705 million tonnes of carbon dioxide would be released each year.  That’s more than 1.3 times Australia’s current annual emissions.

Australia’s pollution has been going up year on year.  How can the Federal Government justify a polluting mine like Adani when the world needs action on climate change?”

Burning coal drives climate change and Australians are already feeling the impact. We’ve just lived through an Angry Summer with temperature records smashed and bushfires ravaging rainforests.  We must leave fossil fuels in the ground and continue the transition to clean energy with renewables and storage technology,” he said.

save the ABC from its own rightwing checkers...

The claim

Apprenticeships help skill up the workforce and can unlock a lifetime of job opportunities for those lucky enough to secure one.

Both major parties are promising to boost apprenticeships, amid claims by Opposition Leader Bill Shorten that the Coalition Government is to blame for creating a "crisis in trades training".

"They have a shocking record on vocational education," he told reporters recently, before claiming the number of apprenticeships in Australia has fallen.

"It was 420,000 before the Abbott/Turnbull/Morrison government. Now it's south of 280,000 and declining."

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2019-04-29/fact-check-apprenticeships-drop-c...

Here the USELESS "fact-checkers" at the ABC are thereafter going on a convoluted journey to prove that Shorten has been "misleading"... Fuck THEM! I get annoyed when their own graph shows both Traineeship and Apprenticeship HAVE GONE SOUTH UNDER THE CARELESS COALITION LET BY TURDY ABBOTT, BLANCMANGE MALCOLM AND AGGRO SCUMMO. What drug are these (obviously rightwing) "fact-checkers" on at the ABC? Do they hope that we'll only read their stupid heading and not check their own fact-checking? Idiots.

Shorten is correct! Whether you're a skilled tradie with a blow torch or a barista with a hot milk pipe, training is training. Look at the "skilled workforce" that burned Notre Dame down! I can tell you now that had renovations not been going on, the roof would still be in once piece... You would not want this with your latte, woud you? And there are many job areas where young people need to be potty-trained in accountancy before they can handle the till...
