Tom Hanks was rolling out the Vegemite jokes and an Australian accent as host on Saturday Night Live's (SNL) first "quarantine version".

• The show also paid tribute to music producer Hal Willner, who died after showing symptoms consistent with coronavirus

 

The actor used his time recovering from COVID-19 on the Gold Coast as prime comedy fodder for the popular late night show's first time on the air in more than a month.

Hanks, who was diagnosed in early March, joked about some common US-Australian differences.

"The folks in Australia are fantastic in every way, but they use Celsius instead of Fahrenheit when they take your temperature," he said.

That made a reading of 36 good but 38 bad, "like Hollywood treats female actresses", he quipped.

But the Oscar winner clearly remembered the response he received on Twitter for his liberal use of Vegemite while in isolation.

The Southland nurse, who has been living and working as a nurse in London for the past eight years, was one of two nurses credited by UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson, 55, with saving his life during his hospitalisation with the coronavirus “when things could have gone either way”.

Mr Johnson said Jenny from Invercargill “to be exact”, and Luis from Portugal, were the reason that “in the end, my body did start to get enough oxygen”.

“Because for every second of the night they were watching and they were thinking and they were caring and making the interventions I needed.

“So that is how I also know that across this country, 24 hours a day, for every second of every hour, there are hundreds of thousands of NHS staff who are acting with the same care and thought and precision as Jenny and Luis,” he said in a message from his country estate Chequers, where he is continuing to recover.

Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli has performed a live Easter concert in the empty Duomo cathedral in Milan to promote a message of hope for Italy and the world as it confronts the coronavirus pandemic.

Bocelli sang four hymns, before finishing with a moving rendition of Amazing Grace as a montage showed the empty streets of Paris, London and New York.

Julian Assange secretly became engaged and fathered two children all while in hiding in a London embassy, it has been revealed.

On Sunday, the WikiLeaks founder’s fiancee outed herself as she expressed fears the Australian’s life may be “coming to an end” at Belmarsh Prison.

“It’s been … 10 years of breaking someone down, of trying to destroy his life,” Stella Moris-Smith Robertson said.

Ms Moris-Smith Robertson showed off photographs and videos of the couple’s sons Max and Gabriel as she issued a teary plea for the UK to bail her 48-year-old partner, one year after he was taken into custody.

The trained lawyer, who said she spoke fluent Swedish, explained that she met Assange in 2011 when she was a legal researcher looking into Sweden’s legal theory to help in his rape case.

The pair formed a close friendship that by 2015 developed into a romance.

Real facts:

We don’t know where and how the Covid19 (SARS-CoV-2) virus jumped from pangolins to bats to human. Patient zero does not exist as such, even touted ad nauseam by the American/Western liberal media.

Where did the information come from? Doctors? Chinese doctors? Chinese officials? Sick people? Chinese media? Do we trust the Chinese media on this subject when for the past few years, the West has poopooed the said media for being a bearer of false news and/or being slanted? Was there an official from WHO to record patient zero and verify the information?

Covid19 is less dangerous than SARS, but because Covid19 (SARS-CoV-2) can infect many people without inducing symptoms, more people can get infected and die than with SARS. SARS nearly always induce heavy symptoms in people, thus people with SARS are soon found out and isolated/ quarantined early. SARS has a kill rate of around 35 per cent. Covid19 (SARS-CoV-2) has a kill rate of under 10 per cent (2 to 3 per cent in younger people, 40 per cent in older people). 

SARS and many other viruses are PATENTED. This is to say that they are copyright of the laboratory(ies) that “discovered” the DNA genetic map of such viruses. They also hold the copyright on the proteins used by the viruses to penetrate (human) cells, therefore control the process of finding “cures” with exorbitant cost to any other labs using the patents. Note the list of patented viruses is very long.

Many viruses can be manipulated to become MORE — or less — virulent. Less virulent viruses are used to create vaccines. More virulent viruses are developed for warfare. Viruses can also mutate by adaptation. More virulent mutations can be used for warfare.

Viruses can be taken from the wild and modified artificially to be MORE virulent via various techniques of genetic manipulations and infection of lab animals such as monkeys and mice.

Some viruses (and bacterias) — because of their dangerous potential — cannot be “studied” by low level security laboratories. These labs need a certification level 4.

There are more than 100 known DEDICATED bio-WARFARE laboratories worldwide working on developing/maintaining viruses for pandemics (and/or “cures") in times of conflict.

On a video of Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) director Robert Redfield apparently admitted that the US had several deaths from Covid-19 before they (the Chinese) were able to test for it. Did the virus appear in the US before being found in China?

Laurent-Henri Vignaud is a lecturer in modern history at the University of Burgundy. A specialist in the history of science, he explains to Le Monde how the concept of contagion was formed, and how epidemics, as well as the measures taken to control them, have shaped our societies.

When did the notion of contagion appear?

In archaic Greek thought, there was the idea that diseases were caused by a poison called "contagion" and where the word "contagion" comes from. However, in the 5th century BC, this conception was replaced by that of Hippocrates, according to whom the disease results from an imbalance between "moods". We find the trace in the word "cholera", which comes from the Greek cholê, bile.

This theory prevailed until the work of Pasteur and the German Koch, who highlighted the role of viruses and bacteria in the spread of infectious diseases. Despite this, during the cholera epidemics that hit Europe in the 19th century, there was a whole debate between the "contagionists", convinced of the role of microbes, and the "anti-contagionists", convinced that health was no more than a question of general hygiene: eat well, breathe fresh air, wash your hands.

It took a while for the microbial origin of infectious diseases to become established …

The city was famous for its exemplary hygiene: the inhabitants benefited from the sewerage, the streets were clean, the housing sanitary. It was unthinkable that such a disease called "dirty hands" would spread there. No one wanted to believe that the only comings and goings in the port could be behind the epidemic's return.


What are the first examples of quarantine in history?

During the medieval period, the city of Ragusa, in Sicily, at the end of the 14th century, then the Republic of Venice, at the beginning of the 15th century, placed ships in quarantine in the event of suspected illness on board. Venice had also decided to close hostels and ban funeral ceremonies during the plague epidemic.


Question: is there money to be made from pandemics? Answer: Inovio hit the headlines a few years ago, when they received a grant to create an anti-Zika vaccine (something they managed to do in less than six months).

The grants were distributed by the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI), an NGO that promotes global vaccination and is funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (among others).
Inovio’s stock jumped 12% when it was announced they had been commissioned to manufacture the vaccine (for Zika?), whilst Co-Diagnostic’s stock almost doubled in value following the news — nearly doubling (up 80%) to a one-year high. Trading volume shot up to 36.1 million shares, compared with the day average of about 161,000 shares. With Covid19 some people are going to make a (shit) lot of money.

Is there a conspiracy to infect the world to make money? This is a contentious area and we could suspect NO, but the jury has to be alert. 

Is there a stiff response to pandemics by governments to INCREASE THEIR POWERS AND surveillance CONTROLS?  Answer: YES. Will these controls be rescinded when the panic is over? Mostly NO. See Patriot Act and such in most Western countries.

Are there lunatics — with access to dangerous viruses and bacterias —who could decide to infect the world? Answer: YES. The Bruce Ivins case with Anthrax is one such occasion. See also Dr Stragelove movie, in regard to a lunatic wanting to start a nuclear war.

The so-called Spanish flu, though it DID NOT ORIGINATE FROM SPAIN. 

It was called the “Spanish flu” only because, while the United States, Britain and France were all censoring news about the spread of the pandemic in their countries to maintain domestic morale, the press in neutralist Spain was reporting freely on influenza cases there. In fact, the first major wave of infections in the United States came in U.S. training camps set up to serve the war.

The "Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations" had a coincidental training session late last year — just BEFORE THE COVID19 pandemic. The general rules were Isolation, quarantine and "lowering the curve” of infection by spreading it over a longer time. Finding a vaccine.

Who are most at risk?:

Poor people around the world and blacks in the USA — old people in general — those in nursing homes, retirement villages and on cruise ships. 

Treatment:
Mechanical: Use of ventilators and draining fluid from lungs when applicable. 
Chemical: no drug at this stage, yet drugs to contain Malaria seems to work with some patients. 
Let the immune system do the work. People with low immunity are stuffed.

Note: we also know that thalidomide is used to treat leprosy — a cousin bacteria of tuberculosis — Erythema nodosum leprosum (ENL). Thalidomide has been used to treat ENL since the 1960s. One of its mechanisms of action is anti-inflammatory through selective inhibition of the pro-inflammatory cytokine TNF-alpha produced by monocytes.

Where to from here? Do not trust the general news about where the thingster came from or that governments know best... Keep isolated when possible nonetheless, wash your hands with SOAP. 

A vaccine won’t be available for at least six months. Like with the flu vaccine it may not be efficient across the board, despite being touted as "universal"...

The White House Gift Shop Is Now Selling This Absurd Commemorative Coin Honoring President Trump’s Fight Against the Coronavirus

Donald Trump's penchant for over-the-top presidential coins has already inspired contemporary-art parodies.

 

But the White House Gift Shop is a privately run online store with no direct connection to the White House or the Trump administration.

Its own website says it "operates independently of the US government". 

The coins, however, do exist and are being sold by the store. They show a coronavirus germ superimposed over a world map, with slogans such as "Together we fought the unseen enemy" and "Everyday heroes suited up". The site saysprofits will be donated to hospitals.

Set up by President Harry S Truman in 1946, the gift shop was transferred to a private company years ago, which now holds the trademark for "White House Gift Shop". 

The site previously came to media attention in 2018 when it sold coins commemorating Donald Trump's Singapore summit meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.
