vale john, we miss you dearly...

It is with a very heavy heart I have to tell you that John (John Richardson), Secretary of the 

Bega Valley Shire Residents and Ratepayers Association (BVSRRA), passed away on Thursday night in hospital in Sydney ....

 

 

If you were unaware he had been battling for a long time oral cancer which reignited again and again, he was due for further major surgery when he took a turn in the early hours of the morning after having stabilised somewhat on the previous day....the hospital called Anne at her hotel and she went straight there but it was all too late.. John was gone....Anne's sister and brother arrived on Friday to be with Anne ..   John is to be cremated in Sydney and then to have a memorial service to be held at John and Anne's home at Wallagoot at a date to be announced....  We have lost a true statesman for truth, fairness and integrity...a man who instilled belief and confidence in others, a caring selfless person ...an intellectual giant, a one in a million man....with a life full of wonderful achievements…..  and no longer suffering

I have met John face to face only once... But we corresponded nearly every day as we battled the enemies of democracy who appeared in whatever shape of form, left or right, right or left... He loved the wildlife in his patch of green near Bega. My sincere condolences to his wife Annie...

Australian actor and activist Tony Barry is being remembered by film industry heavyweights for an extensive and impressive career after passing away at the age of 81 on Wednesday.

Fellow actor Sam Neill was among those who paid tribute, writing in a tweet that Barry was a "lovely man, terrific actor and hero of mine".

Born in Queensland's Ipswich during 1941, Barry worked in more than 120 film and television productions and enjoyed a theatre career in both Australia and New Zealand.

His first major feature film was 1977's The Mango Tree and he went on to work on more than 60 features over five decades, including Baz Luhrmann's Australia.
