More than two-thirds of the French public believe President Emmanuel Macron was wrong to suggest that NATO could someday send its own troops to support Kiev in the conflict with Moscow, according to a new poll.
Survey results published on Thursday by French newspaper Le Figaro showed that 68% of respondents disapproved of Macron’s comments on a future NATO deployment to the war-torn state, while just 31% said they agreed and the remainder were undecided.
Other key states in the US-led military bloc have similarly distanced themselves from Macron’s remarks, which were made on Monday following a meeting of European leaders in Paris. During a press briefing, the president said while there was “no consensus” among NATO members to send forces to Ukraine, “in terms of dynamics, we cannot exclude anything. We will do everything necessary to prevent Russia from winning this war.”
In the days since, the United States, Britain, Spain, Italy, Germany and other major members of the North Atlantic bloc have rushed to clarify that there were, as of yet, no plans to deploy any NATO troops to Ukraine.
Macon has nonetheless doubled down on his statement, telling reporters on Thursday that he meant what he said, and that his words were “weighed, thought-through and measured.”
However, some smaller members of the NATO bloc – namely Baltic states Estonia and Lithuania – appeared to back Macron, with senior officials from both countries suggesting that sending troops to Ukraine should not be ruled out.
Moscow has strongly condemned Macron’s remarks, cautioning the US-led alliance against taking further hostile moves. Should NATO troops actually be deployed to Ukraine, a direct confrontation between the alliance and Russia will become not only “possible,” but “inevitable,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov warned.

The provision of Western aid to the Kiev regime has further exacerbated the current rift between Macron and Scholz, Dr. Gregor Spitzen, German political analyst and independent journalist, told Sputnik.
The past few days have seen Western media discuss "open display of discord" between French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.
After Macron recently proclaimed that he refuses to rule out sending EU troops to Ukraine, Scholz rejected the idea by emphasizing that "there will be no soldiers on Ukrainian soil sent there" by European states or NATO members.

The possibility of the Ukraine conflict escalating into World War III cannot be ruled out, former French Prime Minister Manuel Valls claimed on Thursday in an interview with the Europe-1 news channel.
According to Valls, the fate of the French people and others across Europe is “closely tied” to the hostilities between Moscow and Kiev, meaning they should “act much more decisively”to support Ukraine, including militarily.
“We cannot accept the hypothesis of a victory for Vladimir Putin which would represent the end of Ukrainian democracy and the strategic, military, political, and moral defeat of Europe,” Valls stated.
“Defeating Russia is essential, and for that, we must act much more strongly and quickly, and not forbid anything,” he added, apparently referring to French President Emmanuel Macron’s recent comments that sending NATO troops to Ukraine should not be ruled out.
Following Macron’s remarks earlier this week, a range of countries – including Poland, Germany, the US, Italy, the UK, and other NATO members – rejected the idea that they could deploy forces to Ukraine. The chief of the US-led bloc, Jens Stoltenberg, has also dismissed such a scenario.
Meanwhile, a public survey conducted by the French newspaper Le Figaro on Thursday also revealed that over two-thirds of French citizens disapproved of Macron’s comments on a possible NATO deployment to Ukraine.
Nevertheless, Macron has doubled down on his remarks, insisting that they were “weighed, thought-through, and measured.” So far, only two other NATO members, Estonia and Lithuania, have supported the French president, suggesting that sending troops to Ukraine should not be excluded.
Moscow has condemned Macron’s statements, warning that the deployment of NATO forces to Ukraine would “inevitably” lead to a direct confrontation between Russia and the US-led alliance.

Although Macron's statements about sending troops to Ukraine have triggered strong reactions within NATO, things are clear and fit exactly into the agenda of the globalists: Ukraine must not at any cost “lose” against Russia, and if we have to send troops there, we will do so.
At the end of 2023 Macron has already sent military equipment (individual equipment, light infantry weapons and ammunition) to Moldova. In the coming weeks, other shipments of heavy equipment will be made. Furthermore, Macron decided, unilaterally without consulting the French Parliament, to move forces from the 1st Marine Infantry Parachute Regiment (1st RPIMA) currently in Africa, to a border area between Moldova and Transnistria. Transnistria last week requested Russian support in the face of Moldovan aggression, so there will very soon be French troops within firing range of Russian Kalashnikovs. It is very clear that these are not technical personnel or instructors, but seasoned fighters.
Furthermore, still unilaterally without consulting the French Parliament, Macron decided, according to a source within the French General Staff speaking on condition of anonymity, to send forces to Ukraine directly. Everyone knows that instructors, military technicians and French Intelligence officers have already been there for a long time, but it was unofficially. This time French forces will officially enter Ukraine.
We do not yet have precise information on the units that will be deployed but can say today that their mission will be, initially at least, to remain in a static position in sensitive locations. The “human shield” adapted to military units. Macron's reasoning being that if Russia knows that French forces are located at point X, Russia will not strike at point X, not wanting to trigger a direct confrontation with NATO.
Such reasoning is perfectly worthy of Macron, I think it is useless to say more as it is obvious that French forces or not at point X, if point X has a strategic or tactical value, our [RUSSIAN] forces will take it.
According to a source within the French presidential administration, speaking on condition of anonymity, Macron plans to inform political leaders of these decisions next week, demanding their silence "in the national interest". Still according to this source, Macron will then decide, depending on the reactions of political leaders, to inform the French Parliament of his decision.
This is of course just a big joke since the French Parliament votes for everything Macron orders it to vote for, and has done so for around ten years without exception.
It is obvious that on a military level, the presence of French forces will not change the situation. On the other hand, on the principle of Article 5 of the NATO treaty which provides for the response of all countries if one of them is attacked, strikes against French units, which will undoubtedly occur, should therefore trigger NATO's entry into the war.
This is in fact what was planned from the beginning, this is what I say over and over again regularly. Everything is falling into place and things could evolve very, very quickly. Russian military analysts foresee a serious escalation of the conflict in April-May this year. That is to say tomorrow.

Macron explains ‘NATO troops in Ukraine’ remark
The French president has said his suggestion that he did not rule out such a deployment merely aimed to “open a debate”
Paris does not intend to send military personnel to Ukraine in the foreseeable future, French President Emmanuel Macron has stated a week after appearing to suggest otherwise. He also insisted that France is “not at war against the Russian people.”
Speaking during a press conference following a meeting of Ukraine’s Western backers in Paris last Monday, Macron had said that “there’s no consensus today to send, in an official manner, troops on the ground.”However, he added that “in terms of dynamics, we cannot exclude anything.” He also vowed to “do everything necessary to prevent Russia from winning this war.”
In an exclusive interview with the Czech outlets Novinky.cz and Pravo this Monday, Macron clarified that his previous statement “does not mean that we are considering sending French troops to Ukraine in the near future, but that we are opening a debate and thinking about everything that can be done to support Ukraine, especially on its territory.”
Previously, on Thursday, the French leader stressed that his original comment had been “weighed, thought-through and measured.”
French Foreign Minister Stephane Sejourne told state broadcaster Radio France Inter the following day that the president’s remark about a potential troop deployment had served to increase “strategic ambiguity,” and as a message to the Kremlin that Paris “will not give up the fight [for] the Ukrainians.”
The diplomat added, however, that “everything we do is to avoid war” between Russia and NATO.
President Macron’s original suggestion saw major NATO members, including the US, the UK, Spain, Italy and Germany, issuing clarifications that they harbored no plans to send troops to Ukraine.
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov, in turn, warned at the time that the arrival of a Western military contingent to Ukraine would make a direct confrontation between NATO and Russia not only “possible,”but “inevitable.”
On Friday, Le Monde cited anonymous sources as saying that Paris was actually considering sending a small number of personnel to Ukraine to serve as instructors for the country’s military, particularly its air defense forces.
According to the article, officials in Paris believe the presence of French troops on Ukrainian soil could deter Russia from striking certain installations there.
