Howard announces $1m for Xmas parade

Prime Minister John Howard has announced that the Federal Government will provide $1 million in funding for an inaugural Christmas parade to be held in Sydney.

The parade will be similar to Thanksgiving and Christmas parades held annually in America and will be held on November 25 this year.

In a statement, Mr Howard says that the parade aims to "strengthen a sense of community by encouraging people to join together to celebrate the holiday season."

Howard Announces $1m For Xmas Parade

Gus: only the cynics like me - including Antisthenes, Diogenes and Crates - would see this as as the last gasp of a desperate Rattus trying to grab that extra few votes to bring him across the line... After the "OPEC fiasco in Sidney, Austria - raise your right hand, Mr Bush" and polls that shows he is on the nose with the majority of people, Rattus Gettingoldii wants to show his good will... Ill wind, mind you, as this Amerikan turkey tradition has nothing to do with Aussieland where people's sense of community has been decimated by RATTUS POLICIES for the last ten plus years...

A million bux isn't much, but I can smell the helium it is designed to give the illusion that the man isn't that bad... One million bux? Basically 33 cents for every Iraqi killed and displaced by his little war-on-a-whim with his mate Bushit of the Potomac... Furthermore, any MAD magazine afficionados would know how these purely promotional parades operate with big balloons mostly filled with advertising hot air... with TV commentaries to make every one spew before falling asleep...

Long live the Gay and Lesbian Mardi-Gras!

Now the big question. Elections - before of after the Rattus Thanksgiving
Advertising Parade?

Obviously

The parade (see above) is already taking shape and all the US characters are being groomed and ballooned... by advertisers licking their lips in anticipation, including Nestlé... The Daily Tele, etc

This year Sydney will host its glitziest Christmas celebrations ever, with the launch of the inaugural Sydney Christmas Parade on December 4, offering advertisers an opportunity to target an audience of millions.

The Sunday Telegraph Sydney Christmas Parade and Santa’s village entertainment is free.

There will be 450,000 plus spectators, live radio coverage and full delayed network television coverage.

Gus: Obviously all this is unashamedly consumeristly driven, with a dash of charitable blanket.  Not like the wartime parade...

The Sunday Telegraph Sydney Christmas Parade is a community and cultural event that encompasses many different cultural and community aspects under the theme of Christmas. The organisers are independent of any religious bodies.

Gus: The day after the election... we'll celebrate like nobody...
