Pope Benedict XVI upset the schedule on his first day in Israel by leaving an interfaith meeting in Jerusalem early on Monday night after a leading Muslim cleric called on him to condemn the "slaughter" of women and children in the recent assault on Gaza.

The pontiff walked out, a spokesman noted, because Sheikh Tayseer Tamimi's speech was a "direct negation" of dialogue and damaged the Pope's efforts at "promoting peace".

Before he arrived in the region, the Pope declared that he was coming as a "pilgrim of peace", with his staff accentuating that his role would be spiritual rather than political.

In truth, however, Pope Benedict's visit was mired in politics the moment he agreed, at the invitation of Shimon Peres, the Israeli president, to step into this conflict-torn region.

Pope Benedict XVI made a powerful plea Wednesday for a Palestinian state.

The pontiff mixed prayer and politics at Jesus' birthplace and expressed solidarity at a refugee camp with "all the homeless Palestinians who long to be able to return to their birthplace."

The high-profile visit provided a forum for Palestinians to vent their rage over the Israeli occupation, and the pope said he understood their frustration.

But he urged young people in particular to "have the courage to resist any temptation to resort to acts of violence or terrorism," his first mention of terrorism since he began his Middle East tour Friday.

Gus: This, of course, has been the official pipe dream of Ms Rice and Ms Clinton and many others (did I mention Blair-the-pope-lover?)... Yet, the support for "greater" Israel goes undiminished...

The real secret vision of course is that Jordan or Syria (and maybe Lebanon?) would cut a bit off themselves to accommodate the Palestinian State (as well?): problem solved. And Obama himself told the Zionists, Jerusalem is entirely Israeli property before he was elected US president.

Meanwhile the Iranians know they can't touch Israel even if they saber-rattle about it. They must know there would not be enough virgins in the afterlife for all the martyrs that would be created instantly by the West's response...

Human beliefs and silly bravado in conflict are funny-strange that way, especially when impregnated with greed and grab...

Meanwhile, the new government of Israel is not bound by any agreements made by the previous one... back to square one, behind the eight ball.

Thus life goes on as before, miserable for some, powerfully for others, while most don't really know or care as long as they are "entertained" by clowns...

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu may be prepared to endorse a peace process leading to an independent Palestinian state, his defence minister has said.

Ehud Barak, a long-time rival now part of Israel's governing coalition, spoke ahead of Mr Netanyahu's first meeting with US President Obama in Washington.

He told Israeli TV a regional deal could be struck within three years.

Mr Netanyahu has so far been unwilling to discuss a two-state solution, saying only he wants a "fresh approach".

He recently made his first visits out of Israel since taking office, travelling to Egypt and Jordan during the past week.

A two-state solution based on independent Palestinian statehood is a goal strongly backed by the US and by Jordan and Egypt, Israel's only allies among Arab states.

Strange Bedfellows and Disproportionate Power.

We have unhappily witnessed a tragedy in that the Roman Catholic Pope, who is the prime representative of Christianity or 33% (2.1Billion) of the world’s people - has lowered his standing and dignity by agreeing to an “audience” with the leaders of the most vicious murderers in contemporary times – the Zionists who represent just 0.2% (14 million) world wide. 

 

Netanyahu and his fellow killers must be ecstatic at this coup – one that while the organisers have badly advised the Pope, will be sold by the Zionist media as approval for their massacres and murders, rape and destruction that they have visited upon the defenceless Arabs of the Gaza strip.

 

A small part of what was once Palestine Your Eminence, was locked in by land and sea, starved for many years and then bombed, shelled and invaded by the most vicious killers since the S.S. – 13OO men women and children died in just 22 days and the people you have so unwisely paid your respects to have claimed a political/religious victory of unbelievable proportions.

 

And Your Holiness, all under the deception of a peace arrangement which the Zionists will never agree to.  A plan which the unholy US/Zionist alliance does not want in this oil wealthy area that has become the weapon testing, killing field for that group of terrorists.

 

While it is customary for the Pope to GIVE audiences to people of high standing like the Queen of England, for the purpose of mutual understanding and also for the Pope to visit nations of majority Catholicism, it is beyond the pale to lower the pride of all Christians to such an evil extremist group who abuse and use the beliefs of the once proud ancient Hebrew speaking Arabs of Canaan.

 

It is actions like this which will be played out as the tacit condoning of extreme Zionism and does more harm yet again to the victims who are also original Arabs with an even more spectacular history. Once again ignored - even as the British have done to them in the past.

 

The world owes the Palestinians sincere apologies, genuine help and, if necessary, the military power to forcefully reach that objective.

 

A “democratic” vote in the NATO countries to ensure that a measure of Justice is provided to the Arab victims of the Zionist genocide and that their rights are established once again is warranted.  If the US administration doesn’t like it then let them lump it - “It’s Time”.
