London: The Queen has been caught on camera expressing annoyance with “irritating” world leaders who won’t attend next month’s crunch climate summit in Glasgow.
The 95-year-old monarch, who has studiously avoided wading into contentious political matters during her reign, shared the unguarded views about COP26 during a conversation with Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, and Welsh politician Elin Jones.
Video and audio of the exchange shows the Queen revealing her displeasure that some world leaders are yet to confirm their attendance at the Glasgow talks scheduled to begin on November 1. The Queen’s spray will feature on the front page of most British newspapers on Friday.

Scott Morrison has confirmed he will attend a major climate change conference in Glasgow, after weeks of ambiguity.
The Prime Minister on Friday committed to travelling to Britain for the COP26 conference which starts on October 31.
The commitment follows intense international and domestic pressure to attend the crucial talks, including a subtle dig from the Queen.
“It is an important event,” Mr Morrison said at Kirribilli House.
“The government will be finalising its position for me to take to the summit prior to my departure over the next fortnight.”
Australia is being urged to boost its emissions reduction goal at the international summit by signing up to a net-zero-by-2050 target.
But the fate of that decision rests with the Nationals as the junior coalition partner prepares to discuss cabinet’s energy plan on Sunday.

Prince William criticised the race for space tourism in an interview which went to air a day after Hollywood actor William Shatner entered the record books as the oldest person to enter space.
William told the BBC: “We need some of the world’s greatest brains and minds fixed on trying to repair this planet, not trying to find the next place to go and live.”

Dear William, the "world’s greatest brains and minds" aren't in the head of people who play with rockets — nor in the head of those who dab in economics and politics. Mind you, we only need ONE great mind to tell us what we should be doing... Most likely, the greatest lonely mind there at COP26, could be that of old Sir David... and no-one will listen...

In a move that casts doubt on China’s stated intention of reducing its carbon emissions, President Xi Jinping is reportedly going to be a no-show at the Glasgow climate summit.
The Times of London reports British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has been told.
Britain, which hosts the 26th United Nations Climate Change Conference of the Parties, or COP26, from October 31 to November 12, is seeking to get big power support for a more radical plan to tackle climate change.
“It is now pretty clear that Xi is not going to turn up and the PM has been told that,” The Times quoted an unidentified British source as saying. “What we don’t know is what stance the Chinese are going to take.”
The Times said British organisers fear that Xi’s decision to stay away could be a prelude to China refusing to set new climate change goals amid its current energy crunch.
The news of Xi’s non-appearance comes as a nationwide coal shortage has sparked widespread blackouts and factory closures so severe that Beijing has quietly broken its promise not to purchase Australian coal.

Sources close to the Queen have revealed royal doctors have prescribed only alcohol-free beverages for the 95-year-old monarch whose schedule is filling up quickly for the remainder of 2021.
“The Queen has been told to give up her evening drink which is usually a martini,” a family friend is said to have told Vanity Fair’s Katie Nicholl.
“It’s not really a big deal for her, she is not a big drinker but it seems a trifle unfair that at this stage in her life she’s having to give up one of very few pleasures.”
While the Queen is in good health, she was sighted using a cane on Tuesday for the first time in 17 years while attending a service at Westminster Abbey.
